Thirty-five years ago today, October 6, 1990, one of my songs — “Close to You” — reached the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 — a moment that changed everything. What started as a song from the heart became a connection that reached around the world. 🙏🏾❤️💛💚🙏🏾

Condolences for Uncle Cardiff 🌺🕊️

I was sitting quietly, doing some work, when a message came through on my phone. A cold breeze passed by — and moments later, I received the call that confirmed what my spirit already knew. My uncle, Cardiff, my mother’s youngest brother, had passed away. 💔

My deepest condolences go out to the entire family — especially to his wife, Mama Bev, his sisters, and my cousins, his beloved children. I know that feeling of loss, and how hard it is to find words of comfort when your connection to your father runs so deep. 💞

My prayers in this moment are for all of you — that strength, peace, and love will surround your hearts. 🙏🏾🕊️💐

Uncle Cardiff, my uncle and my friend — I remember the first time I met you. I couldn’t hold back my tears, because you looked so much like my mother. She spoke of you every day with love, joy, and laughter — as though you were her son. ❤️🌹
