Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Nahid Islam has resigned from the advisory council to take charge of a new political party.He stepped down from his post on Tuesday (February 25).For days, rumours circulated that Nahid would resign and lead a new political party. He had also repeatedly stated his intention to join the new party after resigning. A new party of students will be announced on Friday, National Citizen’s Committee chief organiser Sarjis Alam said. It will be formed on Manik Mia Avenue on February 28 at 3pm, he told the media on Monday at Bangla Motor in the capital. An oath-taking ceremony will follow the inauguration. Nahid is expected to lead the party as convener, sources said. Nahid was a student activist and key figure in the 2024 protests that led to the resignation of Sheikh Hasina as prime minister. He coordinated with the anti-discrimination student movement, which began with protests against public sector job quotas and evolved into a nationwide call for governmental change.Following Hasina's ouster, Nahid was appointed as an adviser for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology in the interim government led by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus. His leadership has been recognised internationally, including being named in Time's 2024 "Time100 Next.”

More than 5,000 students of private (kindergarten) primary schools in Karimganj Upazila are still waiting for their textbooks, even though the academic year began over a month ago. Parents are deeply concerned, fearing their children’s education is being severely disrupted due to the negligence of the Karimganj Upazila Education Office.

Shockingly, despite the apparent shortage in schools, sources confirm that there is a sufficient stock of books stored at the Upazila Education Office. However, the failure to distribute them in time has left young learners struggling to keep up with their studies.

An angry mob has vandalised and set fire to the Kishoreganj residence of former president Abdul Hamid.

The incident happened in the Kharampatti area of the district around 10pm yesterday (6 February). According to eyewitnesses, a large crowd stormed the house, broke into the premises, and looted valuables before setting fire to a motorcycle parked outside.

Earlier in the evening, a mob demolished the Kishoreganj district Awami League office using a bulldozer, escalating tensions in the area.

Local authorities are yet to comment on the situation, while security measures have reportedly been reinforced to prevent further unrest.
