This is just one of the reactions on social media when reputed U.K. newspaper The Guardian published an article on the jackfruit, and while Bangladesh was mentioned for having adopted it as its national fruit, the article expressed displeasure and disgust at the fruit itself, calling it a “spectacularly ugly, smelly, unfarmed, unharvested pest-plant.” While the West has only begun to discover this stalwart of a fruit, though, we as a culture have firmly held it as a staple for centuries and centuries.
