Scoperta is the new creation from CAMAL Studio, a special car inspired by the forms of the past designed to evoke the atmosphere of Piedmontese coachbuilders, a manifesto to craftsmanship and freedom of artistic expression on wheels.

Founded in 2008 in Turin by Alessandro Camorali, a past in the ranks of well-known brands and design centers in the history of Italian automotive design, CAMAL Studio boasts a young team of designers capable of satisfying every request in terms of concept design through the use of modern tools and a specialization towards the creation of innovative projects, unique cars or limited series signed CAMAL STILE.

The name chosen for this new concept from the Piedmontese atelier is Scoperta, a classic reference to the nature of this old-fashioned barchetta whose meaning also suggests its purpose, a new journey to be undertaken, wind in the hair accompanied by the roar of the engine.

Created as an iconic project it winks at the forms and manufacturing techniques of the past, shaping aluminum and carbon into a silhouette of the Italian 50s and 60s. The return to organic volumes, sinuous reflections, and pure sections are a clear intent of CAMAL designers to bring back sensations of the past, an engine and bodywork born of skilled coachbuilders and master craftsmen.

Made from the Caterham SEVEN 485 chassis and engine, it has a length of 3350 mm by a width of 1685 mm and a dry weight of 560kg. It is powered by a 2.0-liter Ford Duratec engine with 240 horsepower. It preserves the same technical specifications as the original car, fun and raw controls. The wheels, 19”, have been enlarged for both aesthetic and road holding reasons.

The concept of the car comes from a pure geometric form, from the circle that becomes an ellipse and is transformed by adapting to the sections of the volumes. Each step is the child of curvature, a tribute to the automotive culture of the past through handcrafted workmanship of Piedmontese coachbuilders and masters. The cockpit emerges from an elliptical profile that becomes circular and then elliptical again as the viewpoint changes. A material border dividing the inside from the outside, like a metaphysical passage between two worlds.

The bodywork curved according to rules of the past but with a modern language begins with a very low front and then stretches into the long hood to the small windshield. The “seppia” rear brings us back to the meaning of the Italian-style barchetta, while the side is bent to the will of the designers in a ballet of intersections of solids and voids. The headlamps emerge from the muscular fenders in modern semblance as do the rear diffuser and front splitter, prominent and purely aerodynamic in appearance. On the side of the silouette a pair of exhausts finds a place through the volume without dirtying the figure, but rather serving as an ornament.

The interior offers a unique experience, geometric lines resume the circular theme of the exterior, interrupted only by primitive shapes, functional volumes capable of capturing the attention on what is most important, driving. Fine materials and digital technology create a dichotomy between past and future well blended by skilled automotive craftsmen. Unconventional manufacturing techniques and contaminations related to contemporary fashion shape a transversal concept between form and function applicable to individual parts, returning a new and interesting result. The seats, derived from the body, are part of the car and, through comfortable covers, create a unity between man and road.

The Scoperta is a car designed for limited series construction, which can be homologated for road use, and can be configured as desired by customers interested in purchasing by following the advice of the customization department of the Piedmont atelier.

CAMAL studio, through its partners, makes unique or limited series cars following the customer from the initial stages to the final delivery. The final cost of the basic version of the Scoperta could be around 150k euros + VAT, while the delivery time is around 6 to 8 months.
