WOMEN IN NSW - THE CWA NEEDS YOUR VOICE
The first year of the Country Women's Association (CWA) Annual Women’s Survey is currently live, and women across NSW are being invited to their say.
With over 1300 responses so far, some key concerns which have already been raised include:
Health: particularly limited access to specialised care and affordability
Safety: Insufficient law enforcement presence, gender-based violence, and a lack of protective infrastructure.
Housing: The need for safe and affordable living options.
Help the CWA advocate for change by sharing your thoughts before the survey closes on October 31.

Happy Birthday to us!! Although this is a massive milestone and we would usually have an enormous feature in the paper, all about us and how amazing we and our supporters are, we are simply too busy juggling various magazines, weekly newspapers and features.

A CELEBRATION SHIRLEY WORTH SHARING The name of the road which crosses the Balun Bindarray Bridge in Grafton has officially been changed from Shirley Way to Shirley Adams Way, in recognition of local community champion, and the first lady Mayor of Grafton, Shirley Adams. The new sign was proudly unveiled by her daughter Virginia Lambert, and son Simon Adams, during a ceremony on Tuesday, July 30. Member for Clarence Richie Williamson and the Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison joined the family of Mrs Adams for the special event in Grafton this week. YOU WOODN'T WANT TO MISS IT There is plenty to do and see today at the GLENREAGH TIMBER FEST 2024. The wet weather is holding off, and there is a huge crowd in attendance. MC Mick Harrington said its great to see so many people have come to Glenreagh to support the event. The 126th Philippines Independence Day celebrations are delighting the crowd of more than 200 attendees at South Grafton High School. Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan. Full coverage of the celebrations will feature in the June 26 edition of the Clarence Valley Independent.
Make Music Australia: Clarence Valley are livening things up in Market Square, Grafton. Live entertainment will continue until 3:30pm. Managers from four local Coles stores will be partaking in the ice bucket challenge from 12:30pm after helping to raise $15000 in the fight against Motor Neuron Disease.
There is plenty of action on the Clarence River in Grafton today with the Grafton Rowing Club hosting their annual Two Islands Rowathon in support of the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter. Entrants are competing in their choice of two courses, a 10km or a 20km row around Susan Island and Elizabeth Island. The rain has cleared, and entrants are experiencing good conditions on the water. There is plenty of action to see at Tancreds Lane today as the Grafton Model Aircraft Club host their annual Fun Fly Weekend. Pilots from as far as Canberra and the Sunshine Coast have travelled to the Clarence Valley to attend the event. Entry is free. Flying demonstrations will continue until later this afternoon, weather permitting.
There is plenty of action at Corcoran Park in Grafton today as the Northern Rivers Aquatic Club bring boat racing back to the region! A family friendly event aimed at promoting the sport, a large number of spectators have gathered along the edge of the water to watch the proceedings. The powerful noises of the vessels charging along the Clarence River is exciting all of the youngsters in the crowd with many of them keenly observing the activities. Make sure you pick up a copy of the Clarence Valley Independent on Wednesday when we catch up with President of the Northern Rivers Aquatic Club Grant Heeley following the event.
COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER ON TODAY Aidan Really is encouraging Clarence Valley residents to come along to the Jacaranda Hotel car park at 154 Pound Street, Grafton, today for the Team Aidan Big Markets and Auction. All proceeds raised from the event will go directly towards purchasing fuel vouchers from local fuel stations which will be distributed amongst cancer patients at the Grafton Base Hospital (GBH) Oncology Unit, to assist them with their travels as they seek life saving treatment. Aidan said he is enjoying the atmosphere and seeing people turn up in support of the event. He is looking forward to raising as much money as possible to help members of the community in need. From 11am, Mitch Donovan will be auctioning a variety of items which have been generously donated by Clarence Valley businesses, and the lucky winner of a monster raffle will also be revealed today!
There was plenty of seasonal cheer and happiness in Ulmarra on December 16 when the riverside community hosted a magical Christmas evening. Carol singers delighted the crowds, and Santa made a special guest appearance ahead of December 25. The elves of the North Pole told the Clarence Valley Independent they were delighted that Santa and his reindeer could organise a stop over in the region as Christmas approaches, and praised the Ulmarra community for their wonderful hospitality.
