THE END OF AN ERA! πŸŽ“

Today began with house assemblies, reminiscing about the incredible journey our Year 12 students have been on for the past 6 years. Tonight, we'll gather for a Graduation Mass and Dinner to celebrate our Year 12 students as they embrace the future. 🌟

What better way to mark their achievements than with an iconic hat throw, signaling the end of an era and the beginning of new adventures.

πŸ™To our departing seniors: While final exams still lay ahead, you are preparing to step into the next phase of your lives. Remember the lessons learned, friendships forged, and memories created here will continue to guide you beyond the school gates.

Here's to the Class of 2023 - you've got a bright future ahead! 🀩πŸ₯³

Go Far. See More. Reach Further.

**Trigger Warning - Mental Health Themes**

I recently entered Out From The Mist, an audio visual competition centred around mental health. Last night I attended the finalist exhibition at the Judith Wright Arts centre in Fortitude valley and was humbled to be awarded 3rd place amongst some amazing artists. It was truly an international exhibition with entries from all over the world. I'd highly recommend popping in to see this exhibition as it's open for the rest of the week.
My image "Mental Health Is No Joke" was inspired by people in my life over the years that have had their battles with mental health issues.

Artist Statement: A representation of the internal and external struggle we face daily, the pressure to be happy on the outside and maintain the status quo but on the inside vulnerability and despair intermingle, encapsulating the painful reality faced by those grappling with inner demons. This juxtaposition prompts us to contemplate the profound effects of depression and the transformative power of imagination during our darkest moments.

Back in 2015 I did my 1st Trail Ultra Marathon and the Inaugural Wild Earth Coastal High 50 in the Gold Coast Hinterland. For the last 3 years I've filmed it and it's in many ways tougher than that original race. I'm a little less fit running at least half the race carrying 15 kg of gear. This year was the first we saw Sunshine and it did not disappoint. Enjoy the teaser and if you'd like take 5 minutes out of your day to watch the full event video head to the clients youtube and watch it on a big screen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlOw2qZ5oKw

I love telling great stories, so it was amazing to sit down with P.K and Steph this week and hear about their passion for the veteran community and their new space that will be a hub for veteran wellbieng and advocacy on the Sunshine Coast.

I went out for my run this morning and my thoughts turned to AI. It's on everyones lips at the moment with so many new applications. Being a part of the photography community, I see some embracing it whilst others bury their heads in the sand shouting the words "it's not photography" as if they were Richard Nixon pronouncing "i'm not a crook".

It's here, it's in our cameras, smartphones, photographic software and it's not going away. Mediums change over time, Photography took over from painting in the 1830's and evolved into it's own art-form and 60 years later we saw the first moving pictures that eventually brought us cinema, low and behold we still have artists that paint. Film gave way to digital cameras and there are still enthusiasts out there still shooting film and experimenting with traditional printing techniques.

The funniest thought I had this morning was that photographers presently can be likened to American gun owners and that AI will somehow try to pry the cameras from their grasp. Photography in it's current form will endure despite the commercial landscape changing fast with the onset of AI generated imagery. If there's ever a lesson that can be learnt from our current situation of AI encroaching on the photography space it's from Kodak.

Kodak failed to adapt to the digital revolution in photography. They clung to outdated assumptions about the value of hard prints and film-based photos. The shift to digital cameras changed the perception of cameras from purely photographic equipment to electronic gadgets. Kodak's distribution network became irrelevant as digital cameras were sold alongside other electronics. The change in user demographics, with men becoming the primary users, further destabilized Kodak. Despite half-hearted attempts, Kodak failed to fully embrace digital technology and instead tried to preserve the traditional photography market. Their strategy to recreate the past and engulf consumers in their universe was unrealistic, leading to their downfall.

AI will change how commercial entities source and use imagery but i feel photography will always endure. It's the next generation of image creators to work out where the two art-forms meet if at all.

Just my thoughts for day, happy to hear yours.

Looking for tips on getting the perfect headshot? Here's a hot tip that might surprise you! The key to capturing an authentic and compelling headshot is to avoid forcing a facial expression that doesn't match your personality. In other words, don't feel pressured to put on a fake smile. A neutral expression or a subtle grin can often be just as effective in conveying your unique character. With the help of a skilled photographer, even the most camera-shy person can look great, as demonstrated by my friend Pete Brace . So, when it comes to getting your headshot taken, remember to be yourself and let your personality shine through!

Really nice to have Tanny and Daria pop by for an Easter visit with little Eli. 12 months ago I did a studio portrait with Eli still in the belly. Today we went High Key, white and bright!! He's the cutest kid. 😊

As a proud alumni of Tafe, it was a wonderful experience to be invited back to the institution. I had the privilege to participate in an Industry Panel discussion yesterday, where we deliberated on the current Tafe curriculum and provided feedback on its alignment with industry practices, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped for the job market. I owe a great deal to the photography faculty, whose dedication and commitment to their students paved the way for my success today. It's always gratifying to give back and contribute to the growth of future generations of photographer .

My Story

My photography passion began in the Northern Territory 20 years ago capturing the landscapes of Central Australia. I gained inspiration from the places I visited and traveled through the center of Australia thousands of times.

After I left the NT life got a bit busier and for a period I put down the camera as film transitioned to digital. Now living on the Redcliffe Peninsula, the passion for it’s landscape and people has re-ignited my love of photography.

Turns out i’m not too bad at this photography stuff so i decided to formalize my skill set with with a diploma in Photography and Photo Imaging. Now I love the digital darkroom as much as much as a physical one.
