TW - Injury 🩸 (second photo)
So this is something that can happen but shouldn't when wearing armour. During the very first pass of the Victorian Medieval Festival, I chose to go up against my mentor, Sir Clifford Marisma.
This was the opening pass of the entire jousting event for the weekend. After doing my introduction, I selected my opponent and took to my end of the field.
We saluted and took off!! 🐎
As Sir Clifford hit my shield, the lance slipped up and hit my helm, causing it to be pushed down on my face.
At the end of the list, I thought to myself "wow that was a bit rough," and noticing my helm visor had opened, I called for my squire (my beautiful wife Emily) to help latch it.
While making my way over, I noticed a dripping sensation when there shouldn't be one and then noticed the souce 😅
When I got to the mounting block where Em was, she was fixing my helm and then said, "You're bleeding!"
To which I replied, "I know, don't open my visor!"
(In fear, they would take me out of the tournament in the first go)
As soon as Em had latched the visor, I went back to complete my final 2 passes for the session and, at the end of the event, received a very proud message from Cliff about my dedication to keep going. Which meant the world to me.
In sharing this story, I would like to point out that if you too venture into a world that requires wearing a helm during battle. Please ensure it is padded out correctly 😅
Unless you want battle scars, then you do you! 😂
I can also respect that 😂😂😂
(Nose wasn't broken, just in case you were wondering, lol)
