The Gift of Asking for Help: Embracing Support and Collaboration
Can you ask for help? Have you ever noticed how there are two types of people in this world? Those who can easily ask for help, and those fiercely independent souls like myself. My dad was the same way, always wanting to do things independently, even when he was struggling. It’s something I inherited, but boy, does it make life harder sometimes!( It's funny, having processed this show for you, I realised I did not ask for your help. See the note at the end. )
We humans are meant to collaborate and share tasks—that’s what makes us so successful. But somewhere along the line, many of us became too proud to ask for help. My car was off the road this week, so I had to ask for a ride to Inverness. It felt weird, but you know what? The person I asked was genuinely happy to help, and we had a great day together.
It got me thinking: why do we resist asking for help so much? Whether a big life challenge or a simple task, we all need support sometimes. I see this all the time as a coach—people banging their heads against the same wall, refusing to ask for help to get through it. There’s no big revelation here, just a reminder: sometimes we have to surrender and ask for that support.
So, where in your life are you struggling, and could you use some help? Maybe it’s a decision you need to make or physical support for a task. Don’t ignore it or procrastinate. Just ask for help—it might solve the problem and let you move on to the next thing. Trust me, it’s worth it!So, how could you help me? Write a comment, Ask a question, or tell me about your experience asking for help.

Each of us is looking for a solution to heal our ailments and improve our lives. This podcast documents my health and wellness journey. Where would I be without Running and Yoga? Simplify to Thrive: Embracing Less for a Fuller Life
Today, we're diving into the intriguing concept of simplicity vs. complexity. Have you ever noticed how we naturally tend to add more stuff to our lives instead of taking things away? Let's explore why that is and how we can shift our mindset to embrace simplicity.
This week, I was fascinated by a conversation on the Hidden Brain podcast with Leidy Klotz, a professor at Virginia University. He shared a story about building blocks with his child. He would tend towards adding blocks while his son would take them away. It got me thinking about our cultural tendencies to complicate things and how we might benefit from doing the opposite. Do we need all this complexity, or is there a way to live more meaningfully by stripping back? What are we hiding from or masking with the complexity?
Join me as I reflect on my life and the accumulated clutter, especially in our busy schedules. I'll share insights on how saying 'no' can empower and how Eastern philosophies like Buddhism advocate for a simpler, more focused existence. Whether it's our personal lives or business strategies, sometimes less truly is more.
So, here's my invitation to you: take a moment to look at your life and see where you might be adding unnecessary complexity. Could you simplify things and find more joy in the process? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, so feel free to reach out. Let's chat and maybe even have a conversation about how you can simplify your life, too.

Join me as we delve into the intriguing topic of secrets to success in both personal and business arenas. In this thought-provoking episode of the Life, Passion and Business Shortcast, let's uncover the truth about long-held beliefs surrounding hidden pieces of information that are believed to influence our paths.
Have you ever felt like there's some hidden information out there that, if known, would be the panacea to all issues you are facing? This episode may provide you with surprising answers. Paul talks about his experience in marketing and personal development and how he challenges the prevalent idea that exclusive secrets are waiting to be uncovered.
While discussing books that project ‘expert secrets’ to successful marketing, he reflects on the tactics and strategies individuals and businesses use for desirable outcomes. This prompts deeper thoughts: Are secrets just unknown tactics or strategies? Or are there no secrets at all?
Whether it's physical fitness, running a business, or even personal development, I want us to explore the importance of awareness and understanding our patterns and triggers. These might seem like secrets, but they are tactics that can shape an individual's life journey.
I am fascinated by the human inclination to accept the existence of secrets and the allure they create, but what if I could potentially change your perception about 'hidden information'? This episode also touches on life, business, and even conspiracy theories.
So join me to explore the possibilities of life and these so-called secrets.

The Science of Spirituality with Lisa Miller
Here is a reupload from 2020 event on spirituality, it is a fascinating conversation and so worth a revisit. The Science of Spirituality is a talk with Dr Lisa Miller. Is spirituality good for us, and are there benefits to be found from a spiritual practice? We often talk about intuition on the podcast, and many people in business and life will talk about having a gut feeling or being guided to an outcome.
These conversations inspired my wife and me to host on the subject at the end of 2020, one of three we did that year. Spirit-duality was an exploration of religion and spirituality in life and business. Dr Lisa Miller is a scientist who specialises in spirituality and phycology.
I thought to share it with you today, partly because the conversation is insightful. Dr Miller is the author of 3 books and numerous peer-reviewed papers on spirituality and health. She is highly respected, having advised governments, investment banks and even the military looking at how a connected view of the world has physical and mental health benefits.
I hope you enjoy the Science of Spirituality talk; it is one of many that can be found in the spirituality event.
