The Jazz Show - 4ZZZ The best in modern jazz with Knox & Don (and guest announcers). THE JAZzZ SHOW - 9-12PM

The best in modern jazz with Knox & Don (and guest announcers).

The best modern jazz ever recorded. All shows are varied, with content ranging from solo and trio format to small groups and big bands, not overlooking great vocalists. Some shows have a unifying theme, usually an artist but occasionally a birthday. Most shows have domestic as well as overseas content, and occasional interviews with local and visiting artists. If you have questions, recommendations, compliments or complaints, you can reach me at [email protected]

Another Sunday morning filled with JaZzZ. What a beautiful way to start the day. 102.1fm 4ZZZ .

American jazz bassist, composer and producer Jaco Pastorius was born this day, 1st December 1951. Regarded as one of the best electric bassists going, he played with names such as Weather Report, Joni Mitchell, Pat Metheny and Ian Hunter (all fav's of mine).
Unfortunately he left us way too young at the age of 35.

Recently, the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra visited Australia for an extended east coast tour. The long-running group features some true heavyweights, and a real stand-out was the band's baritone sax player: Paul Nedzela.

A VERY HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY 🥳 🎉 🎂❤️❤️🍰 (I can’t believe it!) to a man who has been like family to me and literally everyone who knows him. Besides being from Philadelphia, me, , , , , , , , , , , , ….. I’m gonna run out of room….all studied under this great man, Mr. Lovett Hines. Let me say that every single musician of note from Philadelphia over the last 40-plus years has come through this legendary, beautiful pedagogue. Mr. Hines has done literally as much to shape the sound of modern Philadelphia as Gamble and Huff. You damn right I said it. Even after officially “retiring,” he’s STILL raising ‘em up in Philly (and Montclair! 😉). Here’s to you our dear Mr. Lovett Hines (aka Uncle Love). Have one on us!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ahead of the Meridian Brothers SFJAZZ Center debut (July 29), we look towards The New York Times covering their 2022 ‘El Grupo Renacimiento’, frontman Eblis Alvarez, and the bands psychedelic salsa roots:

“Grupo Renacimiento is like writing a book about the rebirth of a group of artists who fall into vice and re-emerge because of their Christian faith. It’s just a crónica about a classic salsa story, like the story of Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz,” Álvarez said in a video interview last month, referring to the classic 1970s New York salsa combo. “This is a record that tries to emulate the ’70s sound of the golden age of salsa dura,” or hardcore salsa.”–The New York Times
