Weather Situation

A high pressure centre lies to the south of Tasmania and extends a ridge over the state. The high moves to the southeast on Saturday and slows down, directing an easterly flow over the state on the weekend. A weak ridge persists over Tasmania on Monday and Tuesday before a weak cold front moves over Wednesday morning from the west.

Light morning showers about the east. Mostly fine and sunny elsewhere. Southerly winds with afternoon coastal seabreezes about the north.

Weather Situation

A high pressure centre lies over the Bight and extends a ridge over Tasmania. On Friday, the high moves to the south of the Tasmania, then to the southeast on Saturday, directing an easterly flow over the state. The high then moves to the southeast on Sunday and extends a ridge over Tasmania, maintaining settled conditions across the state. The high centre moves away to the east on Monday while another high centre moves over the Bight and extends a ridge towards Tasmania.

Weather Situation

A high just to the east of Tasmania maintains a ridge over the state as it moves further away, to the east today and tomorrow. On Friday a trough approaches from the southwest, arriving Saturday evening as a high builds south of the Bight. The trough remains slow moving over the state on Sunday.

Safety Advice
Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.

Weather Situation
Maximum temperatures in the high twenties to low thirties and overnight minimum temperatures in the mid to high teens.

Severe heatwave conditions will develop over large parts of western Tasmania from Thursday and continue over the North West Coast and Furneaux Islands districts into early next week.

Locations likely to be impacted include Queenstown and Strathgordon.

The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm EDT on Thursday 9 January 2025

Weather Situation

A trough over Tasmania lingers about the northeast during Monday, as a high pressure system over the Bight extends a ridge to the south of Tasmania directing a southerly airstream over the state. The high centre moves over Tasmania during Tuesday and Wednesday, progressing into the Tasman Sea on Thursday, directing a northeasterly flow over the state.

Safety Advice
Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.

Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.

Weather Situation
Maximum temperatures in the mid to high twenties across the weekend with overnight minimum temperatures around the mid teens.

Severe heatwave conditions have eased in the North East district and are expected to ease elsewhere after the weekend with milder conditions developing.
