So What have we learnt from A Dialogue That Could Change the World?
On 8 Dec, history was made as two of the most iconic figures in conservation, Dr. Sylvia Earle and Dr. Jane Goodall, shared the same stage for the very first time.
Sponsored by CDL and attended by Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, this momentous event was catalyst for action in the face of our climate crisis.
It was a Call to Action.
Here are 8 profound takeaways from the dialogue that left the audience inspired, humbled, and ready to act:
1. “Don’t we all wish we had gills? The gift of time to access the ocean.”
2. “Imagine studying chimpanzees from the sky…”
3. “I will never give up until my body does.”
4. “When head and heart work together, we can harness human potential.”
5. “Hope alone doesn’t cut it—it must lead to action.”
6. “You can’t care if you don’t know.”
7. Every single one of us leaves a mark on our natural world every single day, consciously or unconsciously. We all therefore hold the power to choose what kind of impact we make--whether it helps or harms our planet.
8. We all possess a unique superpower—our blend of skills, talents, and insights we can tap into, to drive meaningful and help shape a better future.

The audience of nearly 1500 was truly inspired as Dr. Earle and Dr. Goodall embodied humility, wisdom, and an unyielding determination to protect our planet.
And yet, while this was truly the dialogue of the century, I am somewhat disappointed that Singapore’s mainstream media—CNA, The Straits Times—failed to recognise its significance. How can we ignite a movement if we don’t amplify these voices?

This conversation was not just for the attendees in the room—it was a message for all of humanity. It’s time we rise to the challenge, harness our collective superpowers, and work together to safeguard the future of our only home.

Let’s not let their words go unheard. Share their wisdom, carry forward their mission, and turn inspiration into ACTION. , ,

As we bid farewell to the hottest year ever, I wish you and yours the happiest year ahead. I also wish you water, I wish you plenty of ocean time in 2025. Remember, we are of the ocean; our tears and our blood are salt water. You will always find happiness and magic in the sea. Let us continue to protect our blue spaces—our BLUE SPACE gives us half of our oxygen, provides billions of people with jobs and food, holds the majority of Earth's biodiversity including species and ecosystems, drives climate and weather, regulates temperature, and is the sole source of hydration and hygiene for humanity throughout history.
Sharing here Ocean Geographic’s tribute to Dr. Wallace "J" Nichols, a visionary and beloved colleague, who dedicated his life to helping the world recognise our profound connection with water. J’s passion for ocean restoration was unwavering. He believed that to protect the ocean, we must first understand and deeply value it, especially its vital role in our emotional and psychological well-being. , , , , www.OceanGeographic.org.au : www.OGSociety.org
