Total Fire Ban continues Sunday 11 Jan 2026 which means no Beehive Inspection allowed (use of smokers not allowee). Smokers are considered an "open air" fire and are subject to TFB restrictions. 🥵

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the whole state of Victoria - Sunday 11 January 2026.

No fires can be lit, or be allowed to remain alight, in the open air from 12:01 AM until 11:59 PM. more information: www.cfa.vic.gov.au/firebans

I just received this in my email.
Will check the apiary this Saturday for the Varroa mite as Wed and Fri is Total Fire Ban with close to 42degC. Though I know it will happen as the mite arrived in Australia in June 2022 and the spread is inevitable, I dont know if I am ready for it.

It is now 2026, Happy New Year.
The year varroa will strike our apiary in Southeast Melbourne.
