Police and Queensland Corrective Services officers are searching for prisoner ROBERTS, JAMIE LEE who absconded from Townsville Correctional Centre (male low security farm) at approximately 7:30am today.

He is currently serving 2 years 4 months for Assault police. He may be driving a white Toyota Hilux ute with the licence plate QGS D30.

If you have seen this man or the vehicle, you should not approach him and contact police immediately by calling Triple Zero (000).

Townsville Hospital and Health Service chief executive Kieran Keyes has confirmed the region has reported its first COVID-19-related death.

"Sadly, a man in his 80s has died. We extend our deepest condolences to his family," Mr Keyes said. "No further information can be given due to confidentiality."

🦠343 cases were being reviewed as of 7pm yesterday. That includes 48 patients in the Townsville University Hospital's dedicated Infectious Diseases Unit and two in intensive care. Yesterday, 839 PCR tests were carried out across the THHS.

Active Covid cases may appear lower as the Queensland Government has brought reporting in line with the rest of Australia and after seven days, the case is no longer deemed active.

The Bureau have issued a Tropical Cyclone Information Bulletin and track map for a LOW moving away from the QLD coast.

TROPICAL CYCLONE INFORMATION BULLETIN
Issued at 4:53 pm EST on Monday 31 January 2022

At 4 pm AEST Monday, a Tropical Low with central pressure 995 hPa was located near latitude 14.1 south longitude 150.9 east, which is about 265 km north northeast of Willis Island and 630 km east northeast of Cairns. The low is moving east at 11 kilometres per hour.

A tropical low, 16U, is expected to continuing move east and away from the Queensland coast through the northeast Coral Sea. The system has only a slight chance of reaching tropical cyclone intensity, but is still likely to develop gales force winds in northern quadrants.

The system will have no direct impact on the Australian mainland or offshore islands.

The next Information Bulletin will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Monday 31 January.

WEATHER SITUATION

A local area of converging winds associated with the monsoon trough is currently located over coastal areas of the northeast tropical coast.

This system is forecast to remain slow-moving tonight and through Thursday before shifting north on Friday.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast to continue over coastal communities and islands between roughly Cardwell to Ayr overnight tonight and through Thursday. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 140 and 180 mm are likely within the warning area. Very localised intense rainfall rates up to 250mm are possible overnight tonight and early Thursday morning.

Areas of HEAVY RAINFALL may extend northward over the Cassowary Coast overnight on Thursday and through Friday.
