Latest Severe Weather Warning for 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗩𝗬 𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗔𝗟𝗟 from the Bureau of Meteorology.

For people in parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Issued at 7:45 am Friday, 7 February 2025.

Heavy rainfall possible between Tully and Ayr tonight and over the weekend.

Weather Situation: Significant rainfall may develop over the weekend about the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and the Cassowary Coast, with a monsoon trough in place, rich tropical moisture and onshore flow expected to strengthen. Enhanced rainfall due to widespread showers and isolated embedded thunderstorms is possible from tonight and throughout the weekend, with extremely wet soils and river catchments leading to a higher than normal vulnerability to flash flooding.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and the North Tropical Coast this weekend. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 140 to 200 mm are possible. Isolated 24-hourly rainfall totals up to 250 mm are possible. Rainfall is expected to increase from late tonight, with isolated heavy falls possible through the remainder of the weekend, before easing during Monday morning.

Heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.

A Flood Watch and various Flood Warnings are current for parts of northeastern Queensland. Please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings for more information.

Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Ayr, Giru and Lucinda.

Emergency services advise people to:

▪️ Close doors and windows.
▪️ Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
▪️ Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
▪️ Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
▪️ Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
▪️ Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱
Steps to removing mould:
𝟭. Obtain personal protective equipment, including half-face disposable respirators with P1 or P2 filters, to avoid inhaling mould spores when cleaning. You’ll find these at hardware stores.
𝟮. Place drop sheets on the floor and exclude people from the affected area if they’re not performing the work.
𝟯. Get 2 buckets: 1 for cleaning solution and 1 for clean water.
𝟰. Wipe the area clean with a microfibre cloth and cleaning solution. Don’t put dirty cloths back in the solution; rinse them in the clean water to avoid cross-contamination.
𝟱. After cleaning the area with the solution, wipe the surface with a damp cloth. Don’t use the same cloth you used with the solution.
𝟲. Wipe the surface dry with a clean cloth.

𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿
Remove mould using a suitable mould remover, such as:
• a solution of 3 parts vinegar and 2 parts water – Leave it sit for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour
• a solution of 70% methylated spirits and 30% water
• a solution of tea tree oil and water
• commercial products from the supermarket. Follow the safety instructions to protect your eyes and skin.

𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀
• Always use a different cloth with each process and throw them away after, or the mould spores will spread and mould will reappear.
• Don’t dry brush the area with a broom or brush, as this can spread mould.

Severe Weather Warning
for HEAVY RAINFALL
For people in parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Issued at 10:29 pm Monday, 3 February 2025.

Heavy rainfall possible over northeastern Queensland tonight, into Tuesday morning.

Weather Situation: An elongated low pressure system over the southwestern Cape York Peninsula is embedded within the monsoon trough which extends to the east coast near Lucinda, which is resulting in enhanced rainfall about the northeast coast of Queensland. While rich moisture and some instability will remain in place over the area, a gradual weakening of the low and monsoon flow will see the risk of heavy rainfall confined to more localised parts of the warning area tonight and into Tuesday morning.

Areas of HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING are forecast between Tully and Townsville, and inland to the far western Herbert and Lower Burdekin district. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 100 to 140 mm are possible. With isolated falls up to 180 mm possible. This risk is expected to persist through tonight into Tuesday morning.

A small risk of localised intense rainfall with thunderstorm activity remains possible, mainly between Rollingstone and Cardwell this evening and early Tuesday morning -- a separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued if very dangerous thunderstorms with intense rainfall are detected.

A Flood Watch and various Flood Warnings are current for parts of northeastern Queensland. Please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings for more information.

Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Rollingstone, Cardwell, Giru and Lucinda.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
