For those who’ve been following along, Stumpy just needed a little bit of TLC to ensure he could sustain flight. He took wing yesterday, and we saw him again this afternoon enjoying nectar-filled flowers in our garden. It’s amazing the difference 10 days can make.

This young katydid has been making itself at home in our rose garden! 🪴 Did you know the nymphs of the common garden katydid take on the colour of whatever they eat? 🌸 Their hues can last a few moults before they mature and settle into their classic green look. Nature’s tiny chameleons! 🦗✨

So many cute Aussie Christmas cards feature our beautiful kangaroos 🦘. But I reckon it’s time we start including some lesser-known wildlife, like the Christmas spider or jewel spider 🕷️. Aww, what a cutie! They’re so giving too—one of these little legends gave me a love tap on the shoulder last year, even after I accidentally wrecked its web by walking through it 😆

Meet Stumpy, the Scaly-breasted lorikeet 🦜 This little guy’s tail feathers haven’t grown in yet, so flying is off the table for now. We tried taking him across the road to the big trees in hopes his family would find him, but Stumpy had other plans—hopping straight back across the main road and into our lemon tree! With roaming cats around, we’ve given him a safe place to shelter for the night. I spotted another young lorikeet nearby whose tail feathers are in and flying strong, so here’s hoping Stumpy joins them soon. Looks like we might have an extra guest for Christmas!

Kwiambal National Park’s birdlife was truly exceptional. With recent rains nurturing abundant plant life, we were thrilled to see thriving bird populations and nesting activity everywhere. Mornings came alive with a symphony of songs echoing through the bush, a reminder of nature’s resilience and beauty. It’s really worth a visit.

Meet the Sand Goanna, also known as Gould’s Monitor—Australia’s very own desert ninja! 🦎 These incredible reptiles can grow up to 1.5 metres long and are built for speed, reaching up to 40 km/h. That’s faster than most humans sprinting for their morning coffee! ☕💨

And get this—they have a Jacobson’s organ (a fancy scent detector on the roof of their mouths) to help them track prey like pros. That’s pretty cool, right?

Happy Sunday, everyone! Here’s a sneak peek from our latest adventure, dropping this evening. It’s a 40-minute showcase of the rugged and breathtaking Kwiambal National Park. Things got pretty heated out there—literally and figuratively! Don’t miss this outback beauty (and yes, I mean Don 😉😂).

This incredible escape was all ours for two nights, and it’s truly a place worth exploring. Try your hand at fishing, soak up the stunning sandstone landscapes, and enjoy the serenity of having nature all to yourself.
