Here you can find the latest from our selection of restored vintage hi-fi including stereograms, radiograms, portable record players and component hi-fi like turntables, amplifiers, speakers and reel-to-reel tape recorders. We also repair vintage hi-fi so if you inherited or found a beautiful stereogram but it isn't working as well as it could, get in touch. We can also provide spare parts including new style, cartridges, belts etc.

It’s just a couple of days until we close for a bit but for now the record players keep coming.

This is a 1971 His Masters Voice “Imperial” modular or “scattergram” as they used to be known.

There is a central unit on original removable metal legs flanked by a pair of matching speakers with gorgoeus decoratice speaker fabric.

The turntable is a four speed fully automatic stacker and the amplifier/AM radio is a solid-state unit with stereo and mono auxiliary inputs (lead supplied)

It has been thoroughly serviced by us and is sold with warranty $850

Glorious. We have another Philips Glidomatic in the shop.

The silky oiled teak finish on this has come up beautifully with Jesse’s careful work and it is looking superb.

As with all Glidomatics the sound is great. Six speakers driven by a sold-state amplifier and behind the nifty sliding lid mechanism is a four speed fully automatic stacking turntable. The ‘Music Studio’ section to the left of the unit allows for multiple auxiliary inputs (lead supplied)

From 1965 comes this classic - a PYE “Black Box” on original stand.

The “Black Box” is a semi-portable (it’s heavy) record player and AM radio in a steel cabinet with a 4 speed Garrard turntable that folds down from the front and a pair of stereo speakers that fold out from the sides. It has an auxiliary input to the stereo amplifier (lead supplied).

We’ve repaired and sold a lot of this popular model over the years but they rarely show up on their original stands.

Surprisingly loud for their size they are an iconic 1960’s record player and a ton of fun.

This handsome setup is an Onkyo X-100. A four speaker stereo modular from the 1970’s.

Built in Japan it has a two speed semi-automatic turntable, an AM/FM receiver and a four channel amplifier driving separate pairs of front and rear speakers.

We were spinning some ‘70s classics on it yesterday and pumping some more modern tracks from an iPod through it too. It handles them all with the ease you’d expect from a quality unit like this.

A Philips “Glidomatic” - we’re very happy to have one of these back in the shop.

Stunning mid-century design and great sound in this highly sought after model.

A solid-state amplifier/AM radio drives six speakers with a four speed automatic turntable and a variety of auxiliary inputs with lead supplied.

The unusual design means there is no lid to open so the top is available for lamp, vases etc. or even a flat screen television.

Here’s another Sanyo DC-570NX or as we like to call it “The Waffle Front”.

It’s a mid 1970’s four speaker stereo system made in Japan. It has a two speed semi-automatic turntable, an AM/FM radio, four speaker stereo amplifier and an auxiliary input with lead supplied.

A rare one from the early 1960s - a Precedent Stereophonic Recordergram.

It features a four speed Garrard auto-stacking turntable, a valve amplifier/AM radio and a BSR three speed reel-to-reel tape recorder.

The cabinet is in a high gloss maple finish with it’s original gold thread speaker fabric - all in great condition.

Jesse has rebuilt the valve amplifier, fully serviced the turntable and fitted an auxiliary input while I wrestled with the reel-to-reel tape recorder which is now functioning again.

This is a Philips ‘Music Theatre RF712’ - a handsome and substantial modular from 1971.

Housed in an oiled timber cabinet are a 4 speed fully automatic stacking turntable and a solid state amplifier/AM radio with headphone socket and auxiliary input (lead supplied).

The centre unit is flanked by a matching pair of two way speakers producing a bright and punchy sound.

The whole system is looking and sounding great and even includes it’s original instructions.

Here’s three from the 1960s. All have 4 speed turntables that play all sizes of record and all have the authentic kids bedroom sound of the era. Amplifier, turntable and speaker all in one groovy case.

A couple of Kingsleys.

First is the ever popular stalky leg model with Garrard 4 speed stacking turntable, valve amplifier/AM radio and stereo speakers in a very cool cabinet. We’ve also fitted an auxiliary input to this. Now SOLD

Second is a very small portable that also plays 4 speeds and all sizes of records. Sounds great with 78rpm discs as well as 33 and 45’s.

Both serviced by us and sold with warranty. $595 and $150 respectively.

Today we have an HMV “8+8” tabletop modular in beautiful condition.

Cosmetically it looks as it would have in the 1960’s when brand new. Real teak veneers, speaker fabric and lid are almost flawless.

The centre section with solid-state amplifier and 4 speed automatic turntable has been serviced by us and is working well through the pair of matching speakers. An auxiliary lead is also provided so you can plug your phone or Bluetooth etc. In to it.

At Multisonics we sell a lot more than stereograms. We are often putting together component systems to match the aesthetic and budget of our customers.

We have a wide range of turntables, amplifiers, speakers, cassette and CD players etc.

Here’s a couple of possibilities. First is a British Leak Stereo 30 amplifier with a a Silcron/Tokyo Sound turntable paired with Japanese Coral speakers all from the late 1960’s. Second is a pair of B&O Redline 45 speakers paired with an Hitachi receiver and a Linear Design fully automatic turntable.

If you drop in to the shop we can suggest many other combinations for you to audition or get in touch and we can let you know what component choices we have available.

This long, low stereogram from Healing has a unique design.

As the photos reveal it can be set up in a number of ways. The valve amplifier/AM radio and the four speed automatic stacking turntable are fixed in the centre, however the stereo speakers can be placed independently.

Laying the speakers down the unit looks like a long low stereogram but standing them up on the shelf gives space for record storage etc. They can even be placed elsewhere giving an area at either end for a lamp, vase or even more records.

It’s an unusual and stylish piece but with the usual quality sound of a 1960’s Healing record player.

After a lot of work by Jesse on the amplifier, turntable and cabinet it is now available. $995 Now SOLD

Having its final test run in this shop this morning is the cute little AWA “Cappuccino” coffee table Stereogram from 1963. Photos etc. later in the day when it passes it’s audition. We are open Wednesday to Saturday 10 - 4 at 631 High St. Thornbury

One of our favourite cabinets has to be the amazing Philips “Flight Deck”. So named because the amplifier and turntable rise up out of the unit as you lift the lid like the aircraft lift on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. With it’s stylish 1960’s cabinet details and fabulous sound from the 3 way stereo speakers this special piece is having its final test flight today. Now SOLD Drop by for a look and a listen. We are at 631 High St. Thornbury and will be open Wednesday to Sunday this week and Wednesday to Saturday next week.

We’re very happy to be giving this it’s final test run today. A Philips “Glidomatic” in shiny rosewood finish. Music is “Middle East Mambo” by David Carroll Pictures and price later when it passes it’s audition.

In the early 1980’s Technics released a series of turntables whose main design goal was to be no bigger than a 12” album cover. The result was the SL series of linear tracking turntables using a sophisticated mechanism housed in the units lid. This one is the SL-D4 and is now available in the shop. $550 Now SOLD

Having its final test today is this gorgeous cherry red PYE “Transista”. All going well it will be in the shop this afternoon. The track is “Tabu” by Terry Snyder and The All Stars.

The pinnacle of 1980’s design in hi-fi is getting a final test today. Bang and Olufsen Beocenter 9000 from 1987.

We’re putting a PYE 1010SL modular through its final test today. Sounds like it will pass with flying colours. Photos and price later today.

A touch of warmth for these cold Melbourne days - “Fiesta Tropicana” on a tiny Kingsley portable. Sweet little machine with a 4 speed deck and volume/power control and not much else except it’s immaculate vinyl case and carry handle. $275
