Nestled in the valley of the River Skell in Yorkshire, Fountains Abbey was once a thriving center of religious life in northern England 🍃
Spanning a vast 90 acres, the monastery housed a magnificent church, along with domestic buildings and workshops, serving as a spiritual and economic hub for the local community.
Like many abbeys of its kind, Fountains' way of life came to an end under King Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s. Find out more in our brand new documentary on History Hit 🎥
