The Bureau of Meteorology have advised that thunderstorms (some severe) are possible across most of our zone today.

These thunderstorms could bring damaging winds (>90km/h gusts) localised heavy falls and the potential for hail. Any heavy rainfall could potentially lead to flash flooding so please drive to the conditions and remember to never drive through floodwater.

Please remember to secure any loose items in the yard and around the verandah and where possible move vehicles away from trees.

The storm that came through yesterday (Sunday 11/2/24) afternoon actually tickled the NBN towers in Tamworth

We rely on these for our camera streams. Interestingly enough Telstra have not acknowledged a fault in the area. There is if you are on fixed wireless NBN

Currently we are running on our backup 4G services for the WeatherMate Tamworth Cameras. If it drops out we appologise ahead of time

A reminder our cameras and all WeatherMate Tamworth services will be shutdown as of this coming Friday 16/02/24 12pm EDST :(

With a heavy heart we announce WeatherMate Tamworth will be ceasing our Facebook and YouTube channels as of February 16 at 12pm.

WeatherMate Tamworth started in Feb 2020 when drought and fire were a big issues in Tamworth and Australia; we wanted to report on possible rainfall and show the storms rolling in from the West. Initially with 2 cameras, East and West on Facebook Live, we expanded that to Four cameras to include the North and South for 360-degree views on YouTube:

It was a concept that we believed was needed at the time and in the coming years. Today, we have a weather forecast machine in our pockets. The weather is becoming increasingly unpredictable and the traffic on the live cameras do not justify the upkeep costs and energy required…

It has been an honour and a privilege to serve our community of Tamworth for the past four years providing 24x7 Live Weather Cams, weather information, highlights, and recap timelapse weather videos.

We desperately appreciate all the supporters and followers of the channels who boosted the momentum especially in the early days to secure a YouTube channel with dedicated internet address:

Supporting local community services is important. It takes WAY more time than you could imagine and every one of these channels needs your help! If you follow them, give them a thumbs up on their posts - if not for yourself, to encourage what they do to keep doing what they do best. It takes a click and keeps them on the map.

We will put up a couple more closing videos and posts so keep an eye out for those in the meantime and again keep reporting on weather till our closing date of February 16 at 12pm. The channels will remain active (without new posts) for as long as we can keep them alive so have a look at the previous videos of the timelapses – we think they are pretty cool.

The Bureau of Meteorology have advised that isolated thunderstorms (some severe) are possible for most of the New England and Northwest today.

These thunderstorms bring with them the possibility of localised heavy falls and flash flooding. Please make smart decisions on the road, drive to the conditions and remember to never drive through flood water.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY (>30% chance if a thunderstorm occurs) for parts of the North West Slopes and Plains, Northern Tablelands, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE (>10% chance if a thunderstorm develops) For northeast parts of the Upper West, northern Central West Slopes and Plains, northern Central Tablelands, Northern Hunter, North West Slopes and Plains, Mid North Coast, Northern Tablelands and Northern Rivers.

Thunderstorms that occur in this area may bring DAMAGING WINDS, HEAVY to LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL leading to LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING and LARGE HAIL.

If severe thunderstorms do occur they will most likely develop during the afternoon and evening.

Currently a warning for further West past Coonabarabran however the large cell is moving East towards Tamworth. There are some VERY strong cloud formations to the West of Tamworth.

⚠⚠ Severe Weather Warning ⚠⚠
The Bureau of Meteorology has advised severe thunderstorms are possible across large parts of New South Wales today including the majority of the North West and New England region.

The primary risk is for heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, but also bringing the possibility of damaging wind gusts too.

Thunderstorms are expected to continue overnight into Thursday as they gradually move east and clear from the west, however the threat of severe thunderstorms will continue overnight, particularly for heavy rainfall.

As always please secure any loose items in the yard and around the verandah, move vehicles from under trees where possible, and for those of you camping in Tamworth for CMF (or anywhere else in the area) please secure any loose items in your campsite.

Any heavy rainfall could lead to potential flash flooding, please make smart decisions on the road, always drive to the conditions and remember never drive through floodwater.
