Trailblazer at Sixteen: Young Malayali Girl Conquers the Iconic Billy Goat Bluff Track
Sixteen-year-old Lutfa Ashik has become the youngest Malayali girl to successfully drive the legendary Billy Goat Bluff Track in Victoria’s Alpine National Park, conquering a route notorious for testing even the most experienced four-wheel drivers.
In an inspiring tale of adventure, family, and heritage, Lutfa, driving on her L-plates, navigated one of Australia’s most challenging off-road routes with remarkable calm and precision, guided by her experienced father, Ashik TK.
A Track That Tests the Best
The Billy Goat Bluff Track, located in the rugged Victorian High Country, stretches over 125 kilometres and is famed for its extreme difficulty. It features treacherous steep climbs, loose shale, and hair-raising drop-offs, demanding absolute focus and a capable 4WD vehicle.
Lutfa faced this demanding terrain with confidence, supported by her father, Ashik TK, a well-known enthusiast in the Indian 4x4 NSW community, and her mother, Sabitha Ayangil. The family, passionate about exploring Australia's wild landscapes, turned the drive into a proud, shared milestone.
"It was steep, rocky, and really challenging — but I loved every moment of it,” said Lutfa after completing the drive. “Every climb teaches you something new. It’s about trusting your skills, your vehicle, and your team.”
Courage Runs in the Family
Off-roading is a deep-seated passion for the Ashik family. Lutfa's father, Ashik TK, has long been involved in the 4WD community, and her mother, Sabitha, encourages her daughter's safe learning and exploration.
Adding to this inspiring lineage, Lutfa is also the granddaughter of famous Malayalam film actor Abu Salim, known for his powerful on-screen roles. It seems a spirit of courage and daring truly runs in the family's blood.
“Watching Lutfa take on Billy Goat Bluff with patience and control was a proud moment,” said Ashik. “It’s not just about driving — it’s about learning teamwork, focus, and respect for nature.”
A Journey Beyond the Track
The Billy Goat Bluff is not Lutfa’s first major off-road challenge. She has previously tackled other notoriously difficult tracks across Australia, including:
* Lost City Track in Lithgow (NSW)
* Bridal Track in Hill End (NSW)
* Stockton Beach (NSW)
* The Ngkala Rocks crossing in Fraser Island (QLD)
Her favourite vehicle for these adventures is her dad’s classic 1970 Mahindra Willys Jeep. “It’s vintage and powerful,” she says with a smile. “It connects you to the road.”
Lutfa’s accomplishment has resonated deeply with the Indian 4x4 NSW communities, symbolising how the next generation is wholeheartedly embracing Australia’s outdoor culture while staying rooted in their Malayali heritage.
Looking Ahead
As she continues her studies and off-road training, Lutfa aims to inspire more young people, particularly girls, to experience the thrill of 4WDing responsibly. Her journey proves that adventure is not defined by age or years of experience, but by passion, preparation, and a willingness to learn.
At just sixteen, this young Mallu girl from Sydney has already driven into the history books, proving that the toughest tracks are best conquered with calm confidence and an adventurous spirit.
