C’River Assembly call For Revocation of listed State-owned Industries like

Garment Factory, Rice Seed/Seedling, Edible Groundnut oil Bekwara Factory, Cassava Starch Factory Obubra, Feed, and Integrated Poultry Farm.

Others are Noodles, Ultra-Modern Chicken Slaughter, Calabar Pharmaceutical Company, British-Canadian School of Law and Medicine, Kakum, Obudu, Ultra-Modern Rice Mill Ogoja, and Transcorp.

Reacting to the findings, members of the Cross River State House of Assembly expressed deep concern over the situation. Hon. Ovat Agbor, representing Obubra 1 State Constituency, urged the State Government to take immediate action to reclaim state-owned properties. "What belongs to the State should be returned appropriately," he stated.

The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, in his remarks, condemned the misappropriation of state-owned properties by individuals, declaring that such actions are unacceptable. "Cross River State properties do not belong to any family members but to the Cross River State Government and its citizens," he said.

The Speaker assured that the 10th Assembly would continue to work towards repositioning the State on the right trajectory to achieve the "People’s First" agenda.

Mark disclosed the email he use for his first Facebook account

Earlier this month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the email address he used to create his first Facebook account, stirring up a sense of nostalgia among users.

During a conversation on Threads, a social networking platform, on Aug. 20, Zuckerberg disclosed the email address he used for his first Facebook account.

“Real ones know. First account was [email protected],” he posted.

This reminded users of the time when a .edu domain was a prerequisite to joining Facebook, a policy that was in effect when the platform was launched in 2004, primarily for Harvard University students.

The requirement for a college email was a way to ensure that only students from accredited institutions could join, which contributed to the site’s exclusivity and appeal at the time

Gradually, by 2006, Facebook broadened its membership criteria, allowing non-students to join, marking a significant shift from its original focus on college students.

This change was partly driven by the need to accommodate users who graduated and wanted to maintain their connections on the platform.

NCC Uncovers A Single Individual With 100,000 SIM Cards Linked To Him

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Wednesday said it uncovered no fewer than 100,000 Subscriber Identification Modules (SIM) cards that were linked to a single individual.

NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, revealed this in a statement, where the commission announced September 14, 2024, as the final deadline for linking National Identification Numbers (NINs) to SIMs.

“Through collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the NCC has uncovered alarming cases where individuals possessed an unusually high number of SIM cards—some exceeding 100,000,” Muoka said.

“The Commission also remains committed to working with security agencies and other stakeholders to crack down on the sale of pre-registered SIMs, thereby safeguarding national security and ensuring the Integrity of mobile numbers in Nigeria.

“The NCC also reminds the public that the sale and purchase of pre-registered SIMs are criminal offenses punishable by imprisonment and fines. We encourage citizens to report any such activities to the NCC"

Voice of Nigeria DG visit Cross River, applaud Gov. otu administration

The Government of Cross River State has been urged to intensify collaboration with Voice of Nigeria for wider dissemination of its programmes and projects in the effort to reposition the state.

The Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace made the call during a courtesy visit on the Deputy Governor of Cross River State in southern Nigeria, Mr. Peter Odey in Calabar, the capital city.

Ndace, who was accompanied on the visit by the Director, Training and other staff, said that Voice of Nigeria was well positioned to tell Nigeria and Africa's story better than any other platform in the African continent.

Changing the narrative

He noted that since assumption as the Director General, the focus has been to publicise the role of VON as the front line story telling agency in Nigeria poised to reduce the country's negative image by marketing its potentials.

He urged, "let us partner to tell Nigeria's story especially in this era of social media distortions, outright lies, misinformation and disinformation. Our country is not all about negative news, we have great things happening here too. We should all join hands to tell the positives that we are known for.

"VON has a unique role with a mandate to tell not only the story of Nigeria but the story of Africa as a whole, and we do this in four Nigerian languages: Hausa, Yoruba, Igbos and Fulfulde. For the international languages, we broadcast in English, French, Arabic and Swahili.

"Telling Nigeria's story is something that all of us should be intentional and deliberate about. This is not a time for us to do good and be quiet. We must be unapologetic in telling Nigeria's story confidently," he stated.

Continuing, Ndace said, "as a person, when you travel out with Nigerian passport, you are treated with disdain, unbefitting of your status. This unacceptable treatment is traceable to negative stories people have peddled about Nigeria. We may not be perfect, but we are not what is being portrayed."

The VON boss lauded the harmonious working relationship existing between the Deputy Governor and Governor Bassey Otu, attributing the feat to their background in conflict resolution and interpersonal relationship.

He offered the Voice of Nigeria platform to the government and people for publication of the numerous developmental programmes instituted for the benefits of citizens.

Guaranteed partnership

In his response, the Cross River State Deputy Governor, Mr. Peter Odey eulogized Malam Ndace as a "true and thorough bred professional" whose wealth of experience has repositioned Voice of Nigeria globally.

Odey, who enumerated measures taken by the state government to re-establish Cross River State as the preferred tourist destination in Nigeria, pledged to collaborate with VON and support initiatives that would be for the benefit of the people.

He said, "through the office of the Commissioner for Information, the Cross River State Government will partner with Voice of Nigeria. We need VON to publicise all our activities, showcase Cross River State to the world.

"Henceforth, we need active participation of VON in the coverage of our flagship tourism festival, Carnival Calabar and other lofty programmes and projects of the Prince Otu led administration because we are investing in infrastructural development," the Deputy Governor said.

Present at the visit were the Cross River State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Erasmus Ekpang, the General Manager of the Cross River State Broadcasting Corporation, Mr. Sam Nsor and the Director Training, Voice of Nigeria, Mrs. Funke Atohengbe amongst others.

Senator Eteng Williams' Scholarship Initiative Empowers 12 Youths with Foreign Scholarships

Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, has achieved another remarkable feat by securing full foreign scholarships for 12 students from his constituency to pursue postgraduate studies at prestigious universities in the UK, Germany, France, and Malaysia.

According to a media release from his office on August 27, 2024, the beneficiaries were selected from local governments across the senatorial district and beyond. Four scholars will pursue Ph.D. degrees in the UK and Scotland, while the remaining eight will pursue Master's degrees at renowned universities in the UK, Germany, France, and Malaysia.

Senator Williams, also Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), expressed gratitude to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) for the opportunity to empower his constituents with quality education. He emphasized that education is the bedrock of society and the best empowerment for young people.

The senator has also extended the scholarship to support indigent students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies in federal and state universities in Nigeria.

One of the beneficiaries, Egbonyi Darlington Egbe, a lecturer at the University of Calabar, expressed heartfelt thanks to Senator Williams for the opportunity to pursue his Ph.D. in Energy and Sustainability at Cranfield University, UK. Egbe had previously applied for several scholarships without success, and this award covers his tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses, enabling him to focus on graduating with excellence.

Egbe praised Senator Williams, saying, "May God continue to furnish you with all you need to help even more people lead better lives. Thank you, and God bless you beyond measure."
