LOCAL HISTORY - BON SCOTT PLAYED HIS LAST AUSTRALIAN GIG IN CREMORNE ⚡️🗞️

Also known as the Metropole Hotel, the Strata Inn at Cremorne has reinvented itself several times over the years, as Steps Nightclub, Danceteria and of course Minsky’s.

In February 1979, the Strata played host to AC/DC on their last Australian gig before Bon Scott’s death in 1980.

“There were only about 100 people in this pub, all standing around with their beers,” photographer Philip Morris said in a 2008 interview, “then the band got up and just blew the crowd away.”

Scott drank scotch while he sang and Angus Young whipped off his shirt, jumping from one table to another as he played guitar.

In the ‘80s, the Strata hosted a new generation of Aussie rockers, including Dragon, Midnight Oil and INXS, before transforming into a dance venue during the rave era of the pre-internet early 1990s.

DOGS IN PUBS - YAY OR NAY? 🐶 🍻 🗞️

Councillors Jessica Keen and Efi Carr will propose a Notice of Motion at next Monday’s North Sydney Council meeting aimed at loosening restrictions on dogs in local pubs.

The motion will recommend that Council Rangers use their discretion more liberally when it comes to canine companions in lower north shore watering holes.

LOCAL MARINE RESCUE VOLUNTEER DEPLOYED TO CYCLONE REGION 🌀🌊🌪️👏

We are sending good vibes to Marine Rescue Middle Harbour volunteer Scott Porter, who is the first of our locals deployed to provide help during Cyclone Alfred.

Further volunteers will be sent in the coming days.

Marine Rescue NSW has almost 130 endorsed flood rescue and support operators across the state to call upon during severe weather events.

This is a March must do.

High tea is now being served at Allan Border Oval Pavilion, complete with white tablecloths, dainty sandwiches and bite-sized treats thanks to the young adults from Head High Disability Service.

The pop up tea room is the latest initiative from the much-loved local group, who have already added more booking dates to cope with demand.

DOGS IN PUBS: Should they be allowed? 🗞️🐶🍺

A Notice of Motion will be raised at the next North Sydney Council meeting, asking for Rangers to exercise discretion when it comes to dogs in local pubs.

“Many pubs in North Sydney have a long history of permitting patrons to bring pet dogs to their premises,” the motion says.

“However, there have been occasions when Council staff have undertaken enforcement action to prevent dogs in pubs and indoor areas.”

“This motion asks for a report from the Chief Executive Officer to clarify Council’s legal obligations … and also seeks support for Council to request a broader review from the state government to favourably consider relaxing rules which prohibit dogs in pubs.”

So, over to you. Should dogs be allowed in local pubs - at the discretion of the publican?

INSANE IN THE BRAIN 🧠 SUBMIT YOUR RATE RISE FEEDBACK! 😤🗞️💥🏡

The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) is now seeking community feedback on North Sydney Council’s application to jack up rates by 87.05% over two years.

Consultation will close on Monday 17 March.

In February, Council voted 7-3 in favour of a Special Rates Variation (SRV) to be implemented in two stages, a 45% increase in 2025-26, and a 29% increase the following year.

We have an update from our friends at who report NINE sales at this year’s Mosman Art Walk.

“Three of the nine works are by former Mosman High Art students - Ken Done, Ben Brown and Madison Baird - and two current Mosman High art teachers who also happen to be partners and exhibit together every year - Rod Grant and Michelle Henry,” Jacqui Taffel reports.

“The community has just one more weekend to purchase - then the artworks come down on Wednesday March 12, but the online shop will stay open for another week.”

So this has us a little flummoxed.

Community member Michelle Kyd has sent us this video taken at Balmoral yesterday arvo and she’s wondering if the fish you can see is a baby shark.

“We were at Balmoral from 3:30 to 6:30pm yesterday and this mystery fish was in the water for that whole time,” she said.

“It was at the southern end of Balmoral on the other side of the boat shed.”

So, over to you folks.

Within these precincts, the reforms permit residential flat buildings (up to 6 storeys) within the R3 Medium Density Residential zone (current height limit of 8.5m); and allow manor houses and multi-dwelling housing within the R2 Low Density Residential zone. HOME-GROWN HATRED: ANTISEMITISM HITS BALMORAL BEACH 🗞️😢👮🚔 Mosman has been targeted by antisemitic vandalism, with graffiti sprayed inside the concrete bowl at our local skate park on Balmoral Oval. The words “F**k the Jews” were discovered scrawled in blue paint on Saturday afternoon. The vile incident has been reported to NSW Police. The vandalism is the latest in a spate of antisemitic attacks sweeping Sydney, and the first on the lower north shore. SSSSSNAKE ON BALMORAL BEACH 🐍😱🙅‍♂️ It’s been a week of sharks and snakes here on the lower north shore. This slippery little sucker was spotted on Balmoral Beach around 11:50am this morning, and took a dip - almost undetected! Just another day in Australia … 🐍🐍🐍

IT’S FAREWELL FROM WOOLIES NEUTRAL BAY🍌🛒👋 Seems fitting that there was a half eaten banana in the trolley at Woolies on their last day of trade today. After 47 years, the doors close at 10pm tonight and I was gobsmacked by the hundreds of messages left by the community. To Lana and the team, you will be missed by many. I have been given a truck load of store pics from the 70s and 80s and intend to have the story done tomorrow. They are absolute classics and I cannot wait to share them! ❤️

CCTV FOOTAGE - ROBBERY AT KAZZI - STAFF SHAKEN 🚔🚨🤬 You are looking at CCTV taken last night at Kazzi Beach Greek, which shows the brazen theft of a weekend tip jar that has left young floor staff shaken. Owner Peter Papas tells Mosman Collective the man entered the restaurant around 7pm and enquired about the price of chips, before leaving the building - only to re-enter a few minutes later. “It was the Australia Day long weekend and our staff worked so hard over three days, no doubt looking forward to sharing their tips at the close of business,” he told us. “This low life has waltzed in and scoped out the tip jar, then waited to strike in the split second the cashiers back was turned.” Mr Papas has praised every member of the Kazzi crew, who he refers to as “family” and said he has personally topped up the tip jar for his staff. “Many of the kids who work with us are local and they were upset to think something like this happened right under their noses.” If you were at Kazzi last night between 7pm - 8pm and saw the man depicted in this vision, please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
