MYSTERY KIRRIBILLI MAN WINS $100 LARGE 💰

A Kirribilli man says he will spend the rest of the day pinching himself after discovering he’d won $100,000 in Monday’s Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw.

The local resident held the 1st Prize winning entry in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw 10914, drawn on 13 January 2025. He also scored a consolation prize boosting his total win to $102,000.

“Have I just won $100,000? Is this serious?!” the winning man questioned when an official from The Lott contacted him.

“My goodness! That’s amazing!”

Congrats to the mystery winner, who purchased his ticket via The Lott app, and revealed he is considering “boat shopping”. 💰🛥️🫶

LOCAL HISTORY FLASHBACK - MONKEY TERROR IN MOSMAN 🐒🍌🙊🫨

Thursday 31 May, 1936 via The Sun, Sydney.

“A dangerously vicious Rhesus monkey that escaped was recaptured today after terrorising householders for four days.

The monkey escaped from Taronga Park Zoo on Sunday.

Keepers trapped it in the cellar of a home near the zoo. They used nets, ladders and food in their wild chase around the suburb of Mosman today.

Parents kept children locked in their homes with the windows shut while the monkey was at large.

An elderly Mosman woman, Ms A Lawler, nearly collapsed from shock when she put up her bedroom blind and saw the monkey starting at her through the window.

She gave the alarm and the keepers started their chase - up and down trees, through bushes, around homes, over roofs, and across road ways.

Terrified women screamed and children cried as the monkey bounded over the roofs of their homes and along their verandahs before it was captured.”

Footnote: Further research reveals Ms. A Lawler , a spinster, lived with her sister Mabel at 2 Silex Rd. Their father was Mr James Lawler, an Irishman who made his way to Australia in the early 1900s and earned a fortune after introducing the spring mattress to our shores.

BALMORAL WATER QUALITY (1/1) 🦠🫶🤔⬇️

Our resident Sydney Harbour expert Haig Gilchrist reports algal blooms have been spotted in some parts of Edwards Beach.

“Looks almost like a slick of oil and has a foul smell about it,” he tells us this arvo.

“Algae is liking the 24 degree water and the wind pushing it towards the shoreline.

“Just an FYI that it can cause irritation and might not be good for little ones who love to play in this shallow part of the beach.”

At 3:40am on Sunday 22 December 2024, at around 3:40am, a Seaforth home was broken into, and a black MG SUV was stolen. Later that morning, the stolen MG was used in a carjacking at Doonside, where the offenders threatened the driver of a Toyota Corolla with a rifle and stole the car.

The offenders attempted to steal another vehicle, but the driver managed to escape. By 7:30am, CCTV footage captured the offenders using stolen credit cards at Westpoint Blacktown which were stolen from the Seaforth address.

At approximately 2:00pm, Blacktown police tracked the offenders' movements and arrested four males at a local shopping centre. Both the stolen MG and Toyota Corolla were recovered nearby.

The offenders, aged 17, 17, 21, and 22, have been charged with multiple offenses, including Aggravated Break and Enter, Steal Motor Vehicle, Dishonestly Obtaining Property by Deception, and Robbery while Armed with a Dangerous Weapon.

Three offenders were refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Children’s Court on 21 February 2025, Parramatta Local Court on 20 February 2025 and Surry Hills Children’s Court on 26 February 2025. About 8.30pm on 22 December 2024, a bus driver noticed two teenage boys enter his bus at the Manly Wharf stand at Belgrave Street. The driver noted the teenagers were holding a case of beer and an opened bottle. The driver was concerned about the other passengers, including other children, and instructed the individuals to disembark.

The teenage boys initially moved to the rear of the bus, but the driver refused to proceed and turned off the bus. He stepped out of his seat and addressed the individuals telling them everyone was waiting for them to get off. After some resistance, the teenagers got off the bus and one of them became aggressive and kicked the rear exit door and smashed a glass panel. The offenders ran off toward Sydney Road. A number of people witnessed the incident and provided information to police. The bus CCTV footage of the incident will be used to help identify the offenders. Police are investigating.

If you have any information about this incident, please contact crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit their website. All information is treated with confidentiality. 🚌👮‍♂️

AS FULL AS A STATE SCHOOL - LITERALLY 📚

Cammeraygal High School is officially full - and all new students from years 7 to 12 will be redirected to Mosman High after the NSW Education Department declared the Crows Nest campus can not take any more kids.

Cammeraygal opened in 2015 and had 908 students enrolled in 2024 (below its cap of 1020) but there has been a 13% enrolment increase since 2023. Mosman High had 988 students, below its cap of 1280.

The Cammeraygal High website has been updated, stating “Mosman High School is now designated as a local high school for all students in the Cammeraygal High School intake area.”

“Due to high enrolment demand, Cammeraygal may not be able to accomodate new enrolments and may decline new applicants. These students will be accepted as local enrolments at Mosman High School.”

The intake area changes come into full effect immediately.

With 3255 new homes planned for Crows Nest, this is raising big questions about where local kids will be educated on the lower north shore in coming years.

Do we need another High School to meet the ambitious housing plan in this part of Sydney?

If you are an existing Mosman High parent or student, we’re keen to know your thoughts on the impending increase in numbers. ⬇️
