Yesterday afternoon, I made a little experiment after listening to vinyl@on my Barney Oliver amp…
Somehow it sounded better than my normal setup using my Denton receiver as a phone preamp driving my 3B.

So I decide to try to hook up my Bluetooth receiver into one of the AUX inputs, taking the long and ordinary cable between the Denon and the Bryston, and using instead the integrated amp/preamp from HP.
Then I pressed play in my demo playlist on , tuned I am very familiar with…
And to my utter surprise, I had to admit that this setup was sounding better…
I would be curious to compare it with a Bryston integrated amp/preamp B135…

Look who is back home…

Our vintage 1971 Barney Oliver #358/400 is back from hospital, and not any hospital! The best in town obviously, j’ai nommé the charming and madly professional people of bien sûr! 🙏🙏🙏

This amp is famous for its unmatched phono preamp fine tuned at the time for the oh so famous Shure V15type II.
It works perfectly well with our Green Prestige cartridge without adjustments 👍.
The power section has an amazing slew rate too,and with 160W/4ohms/channel has no sweat driving our SAT MK3s👌👌👌

The technician who serviced it was amazed at the quality of the components used, the same used in all famous test instruments at the time and most of military grade quality.
Just one example, the power supply capacitors were still in spec more than 50 years later!

Finally got the essential connectors to extract the best out of this machine…
Unfortunately, I will to research further to get the “Pilot” which will only become necessary if a film 🎥 camera is coupled to it…

I also bought two more mundane 🎤🎤 from for field work at 19cm/s.
I will keep the .au NT55 for music recordings at 38cm/s.

Bought myself a Elegia 🎧 for 350$ instead of 1400$ as the importer has decide to go on other ventures… 🍾🥂😜

Also bought 2 NT55 .au 🎤🎤 but they won’t come until mid January and that’s when all the real fun is going to happen! 🤞🤞🤞

Getting ready for its first outing in 🇦🇺
Born in February 1978 in Neuchatel, it probably was one of the 50% of the production sold to the 🇫🇷 radios and televisions which were keen to go stereo, a thing that their established competitor took years to achieve…

I am keen to give it a new life until it will be passed on to my son who is in the 🎥 business as a talented and successful DoP…
