Emerging artists in the Western Sydney scene Charnel Rizk , Gem Kret-Nealand .2022 and Vivien Vu .zededwan formed the second Hit Factory ensemble group.

Facilitated by sound pioneer Richard Petkovic , these three came together to create a new song, merging Arabic RnB and Hip Hop vocals with Symphonic rock and Western Classical / Vietnamese pop ballads!

We were lucky enough to hear the debut of their musical collaboration from the Hit Factory residency, which you can find on the Live video from the launch night on our feed! 💫

At the Hit Factory launch we heard a unique fusion of voices singing in Spanish, Arabic and Greek - separately and then, woven intricately together in a dance of contrast and harmony. Slowly, the layers of sound began to build from the soaring heights of Isabella's angelic vocals to the soothing depths of Imad's warming song.

This was the moment that Danny Telas came through and opened our hearts to the raw and striking timbre of her voice, sharing a powerful moment of connection to the Colombian songs and stories that she carries.

And so, the new ensemble group, 'One Six' emerged from our first ever Hit Factory EOI Project - and they are just getting started!

Come and experience these latest explorations into the possibilities of Cross-Cultural music collaboration - One Six will be performing at Culture X Festival in Ashfield on Saturday September 8!

Imad the Instrumentalist and Instrument Maker!

From the Medina, the heart of the old town in Essaoueira, Morocco, we were graced with the keeper of Gnaoua traditions, songs, stories and so much more. Imad-Eddine Dably shines his light through music and shares a profound depth of knowledge and experience in the art of instrument-making.

We don't often think of the maker behind the instrument, but with Imad's beautiful gembri (or guembri) it is impossible to separate the warm, grounding, ancient tones of this bluesy 'Moroccan bass' from the hours of dedication to the craft of the one that arguably loves the music the most - the oft-forgotten instrument maker! The one whose painstaking study in the traditional ways of creating sounds involves the preparation of goat intestines, drying out camel or goat skin and carving the instrument's body from a single piece of wood...

We can't wait to see the new Hit Factory ensemble 'OneSix' play at Culture X Festival this September and to be soothed once again by the power of Imad's voice and, of course, his gembri!

What happens when you bring together musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds and create a space for exploration, expression and collaboration? 💭

The sounds of Western Sydney begin to emerge…

At the launch of the Hit Factory EOI project we were transported to an exciting new dimension of cross-cultural music, weaving together Moroccan, Persian, Colombian, Greek, Lebanese, Vietnamese and Western Classical lineages - with a touch of Symphonic Rock! - across the two ensemble groups.

It was a very special night that offered us a glimpse into the pure creative potential that exists within our communities. We were treated to stunning compositions that spoke to the beauty and curiosity of different cultures coming together in song.

The event was captured Live on our Instagram, now on our feed for your next adventure into a world of cross-cultural music! 🎶

Thank you to the artists: Imad-Eddine Dably, Behzad Ansari, Isabella Rahme and Danny Telas (Ensemble Group 1) and Charnel Rizk, Vivien Vu and Gem Kret-Nealand (Ensemble Group 2) for your incredible performances.

Isabella Rahme is an emerging composer, harpist and vocalist that not only writes for choirs and ensembles, she creates sound art and installations and improvises on her electroacoustic harp. Isabella is a rising star and one to watch! In anticipation of the Hit Factory Ensemble Launch next Friday, prepare to be mesmerised by one of her compositions ‘Return’ (2023) with Ensemble Offspring: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocZHV7gO55I), explore her electroacoustic experiments on Soundcloud (https://soundcloud.com/isabellarahme) and be captivated by a recent release via Bandcamp entitled ‘unperceived’ which asks the question: ‘What sounds do trees make when no person is there to hear them?’ All of the sounds explored in the track are derived from the harp! It is well worth a listen: https://bella-rahme.bandcamp.com/track/unperceived
