‘Morocco Blue’ by OneSix
Isabella Rahme, Imad-Eddine Dably, Behzad Ansari and Richard Petkovic came together in June this year for the first EOI Hit Factory project and in 16 hours together at @bankstownartscentre they wrote and recorded 5 new songs and 1 new music video!
With the addition of Danny Telas, this new ensemble group is sharing an exciting new sound that brings together Morrocan, Persian, Colombian and Western Classical musical traditions, with songs and lyrics that speak to the coming together of different cultures through music.
Come and experience this beautiful new world of sound at Culture X Festival in September. (Full lineup to be announced this week!)
Danny Telas is a singer, percussionist and gaita player weaving over 16 years of study in the Indigenous folkloric musical traditions of her homeland, Colombia, with synths and electronic elements to create a uniquely new and ancient sound 🪇 🪘 🪈 ✨
Danny runs the I’mCaribe collective (@abalenga_ )bringing Colombian folkloric music to the streets of Eora (Sydney) and beyond. She is one half of the TYGUA Electroroots power duo with Muisca artist and multi-instrumentalist @oro_ana__ and you may have seen Danny performing around town with the high energy party masters known as Bare Necessities Collective (@barenecessitiesmusic) 🎶
As if that wasn’t enough for you to be in awe of her endless talents, Danny is also a dancer, aerialist, acrobat, fire player and circus artist! 🔥 What can’t she do?
Join us tomorrow night at @bankstownartscentre from 6pm (and on Instagram live) for the debut performance of the Hit Factory residency artists. It’s a free event!
We are so thrilled that @danny_telas will be bringing the Colombian rhythms! 🎶 See you there!
The warm sounds of the Guembri as played by Imad-Eddine Dably 🎶 clearly brought a lot of joy to the Hit Factory studio!
We are sharing Richard’s excitement in this video as this FRIDAY NIGHT at Bankstown Arts Centre will be the debut performance of the Hit Factory ensemble groups and it is a FREE event! RSVP info in bio 💫
Imad is a well-known Gnaoua musician, traditional instrument artisan and an ambassador for the history of African Moroccan Sufi music. Imad hails from a prominent Sufi family that crafts traditional musical instruments in the heart of the medina, the old city, in his hometown of Essaouria, Morocco.
Since 2007 Imad has travelled the world promoting the preservation of traditional Moroccan instruments such as the Guembri, Qarqapa and Tbel, performing in Australia, England, Ireland, Germany, Holland, Italy, France, Poland, Scotland and Qatar!
Imad speaks five languages and has collaborated with musicians and bands all over the world, such as German-African folk band Jobarteh Kunda and Australian band Oka.
We are grateful to Outloud Arts and Cultural Arts Collective for making this project possible and to Create NSW for funding the Hit Factory project.
Hit Factory is a Sacred Currents Inc. initiative led by Western Sydney producer and sound pioneer Richard Petkovic.
Behzad Ansari is a Persian musician, composer, and Doctorate of Creative Arts student at UOW in Australia. He is the founder of @avayerood ensemble and plays santour, tar, setar, barbat (oud), santoor, and tanbour. @behzadansariofficial 🎶
Here he is in the Hit Factory studio rocking out on the oud! (Accompanied with joyous head-bopping by @imad_trance_music and @isabella.rahme 😉), a special moment captured by Richard Petkovic.
Come and see the fruits of their cross-cultural music collaboration on July 5th at @bankstownartcentre!
This will be the first time these artists, along with @danny_telas , will be performing their new songs together, weaving together Persian, Moroccan, Colombian and Western Classical music traditions with lyrics that speak to the experience of people of different cultures coming together to create new music.
Hit Factory is a Sacred Currents Inc. project made possible with the support of @culturalartscollective @outloudarts and funded by @creatensw
