Gray whales

One of the most incredible animals I have had the opportunity to encounter in the ocean.

Their behavior is simply mind-blowing.

These whales approach boats to interact with us humans in a way I had never seen before.

They rub against the boat, lift their heads out of the water so you can pet them, and even occasionally blow on your face.

The truth is, we donā€™t really know why they behave this way, but what is clear is that itā€™s one of the most incredible and heartwarming wildlife interactions Iā€™ve ever experienced.

Do you want to come see them with me? Send me a private message!

A month in a secret paradise with the the gentle giants, the s***m whales. They are the largest tooth predator in the world, diving thousands of meters into the depths to hunt giant squid. They are fascinating creatures with such a complex social structure, needing love and family. I will never forget the privilege of witnessing a large family caressing each other, a baby waking his mama from sleep by biting her tail, or a big young girl that allowed me to swim beside her for so long, showing me that within her eyes thereā€™s a blue and red galaxy. Grateful to the universe and to for the privilege of being alongside the most fascinating souls on Earth.

Rarely seen, even more rarely photographed. Meet the elusive Bairdā€™s Beaked Whales. šŸ¦šŸ‹
Bairdā€™s beaked whales are one of the oceanā€™s most mysterious giants. These deep-diving whales are incredibly rare to encounter, and underwater images of them are even rarer. Capturing them on camera offers a precious glimpse into their secretive lives.
With their streamlined bodies built for plunging to depths of over 3,000 meters (almost 10,000 feet!), they spend most of their time far below the surface, hunting squid and deep-sea fish. Their feeding behavior is fascinatingā€”they use suction to pull prey into their mouths.
A unique feature of Bairdā€™s beaked whales is their teeth. Males have a pair of visible teeth that protrude from their lower jaw, and these giants often get covered in scarsā€”marks from battles with other males during competition.
Rare animals like the Bairdā€™s beaked whale remind us of the vast mysteries still waiting to be uncovered in the ocean.
Have you ever heard of these elusive giants before? Let me know your thoughts about these fascinating whales in the comments.šŸ‘‡

ā€œGULP!ā€ - a humpback whale calf takes an enormous gulp of water right in front of me in the warm waters of the South Pacific. In 10 years of swimming with humpbacks, Iā€™ve never seen this behaviour in Tonga. She was nursing on milk from her mother just moments before and was perhaps swallowing to clear any milk that got stuck. Thatā€™s my guess - what do you think?

This was our most amazing Blue Whale encounter to date, on this past Fridayā€™s Expedition! We were driving along at our cruising speed when this whale surprised us by surfacing right off our bow. We immediately slowed the boat and turned the engine off. To our surprise the whale made a beeline straight for us. Usually Blue Whales will pass under a boat at 20-30 feet down, but this one passed just about 2 feet under the hull. Again and again over the course of an hour, the whale couldnā€™t get enough of checking us out upon surfacing. The next day it was also seen, but not since then. A very special whale!ā£-ā£

One of the most fascinating creatures I could dive with. As a freediver I canā€™t be more impressed about the capacities to hunt almost 2000m deep, holding their breath for an hour and have so many adaptations helping them to achieve all this. And there is still so many mysteries about them that makes them even more interesting!

Did you know that s***m whales are the largest toothed predators on Earth? They are highly social animals and live in pods of up to 20 individuals.Sperm whales are found in all oceans of the world, but they prefer deep waters. They are known for their long dives, which can last up to two hours.Sperm whales are an important part of the marine ecosystem. They help to regulate the populations of squid and other prey species.Sperm whales are also an important source of food for some cultures. However, they are threatened by hunting and pollution.Credits by .aboulfadl ***mwhale
