You know it's been a great year of music releases when the sheer volume of excellent EPs alone necessitates its own list.

When Rolling Stone AU/NZ's editorial team gathered to compile our Best of 2024 lists for Australia and New Zealand, it immediately became clear that restricting each list to full LPs would mean the exclusion of some dazzling EPs.

From an ARIA-winning singer-songwriter expanding on her acclaimed album, to a famous pop band member proving his prowess as a solo artist, so many EPs dropped this year that weren't any less impactful for their shorter length.

So without further ado, we present to you our 15 favourite Australian EPs of 2024, ranked.

Check out our Best Australian EPs of 2024 list here: https://au.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/best-australian-eps-2024-70070/

Earlier this week, YouTuber Josh Pieters dropped a 47-minute documentary that followed 23-year-old OnlyFans star Lily Phillips as she planned for and completed her goal of having s*x with 100 men in 24 hours as a stunt for her OnlyFans page.

While she is certainly not the first woman to clear these numbers (in 2004 Lisa Sparks broke the world record by sleeping with 919 in one day), it is nevertheless a grueling feat that took months of planning and a team of assistants to accomplish.

Any s*x worker can tell you that simply getting 100 men to upload their identification for screening is a job in itself.

A clip of Phillips breaking down is getting attention — but from a s*x worker’s perspective, the full documentary is much more revealing.

As anyone who’s recently attended a show by Foreigner or Lynyrd Skynyrd knows, it’s become as common as a guitar solo to see a classic rock & roll outfit without any original members in the lineup.

But what few may realise is that the template for that concept may have started 80 years ago today — with the death of a big-band musician.

From Foreigner to Lynyrd Skynyrd, rock bands without any original members continue to tour — but the Glenn Miller Orchestra did it first.

The surviving members of Soundgarden — drummer Matt Cameron, guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Ben Shepherd — reunited onstage Saturday to perform a set of the band’s music at a Seattle benefit concert.

Billed as Nudedragons — an anagram for “Soundgarden” — the trio were joined by Seattle-based singer Shaina Shepherd, who filled in for the late Chris Cornell. The performance at the 2024 SMooCH benefit concert raised money for Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Aliens exist? Tom DeLonge has weighed in on New Jersey's mystery drone invasion 🛸

Blink-182 guitarist and UFO enthusiast Tom DeLonge has spoken out on the bizarre drone sightings plaguing New Jersey.

"The drones that are being discussed, can hover for six hours, and then disappear once they are spotted. This is why it’s been hard to get facts from any US Agency,” DeLonge wrote on social media Saturday.

"Some of them can even move into the ocean, and then back up to the air. Which is called 'transmedium travel.' A very hard thing to do.”

While performing her Oscar-winning ballad "What Was I Made For?" in Glendale, Arizona, Billie Eilish was struck in the face by a blue bracelet thrown from the crowd. The emotional moment, captured on video, shows Eilish singing with her eyes closed before quickly turning her head and wincing from the impact.

This incident is part of a troubling trend in live music, with concertgoers throwing objects at artists mid-performance. In recent months, stars like Pink, Harry Styles, Ava Max, Cardi B, and Bebe Rexha have all experienced similar disruptions, with some even sustaining injuries.

André 3000 said he and Big Boi are “further away” from a new OutKast album “than we’ve ever been” while discussing the legendary group’s possible future with Rolling Stone.

During the wide-ranging interview, André spoke at length about his current musical journey, which has taken him far from rap to the worlds of experimental jazz and instrumental atmospherics. (His solo flute album, New Blue Sun, just earned an Album of the Year Grammy nomination.)

That’s part of the reason he doesn’t see a new OutKast album on the horizon, something he admitted felt a bit more possible to him “maybe 10, 15 years ago.”

“I think it’s a chemistry thing,” André continued. “We have to be wanting to do it. It’s hard for me to make a rap, period, you know? And sometimes I’m in the belief of, ‘Let things be.’”

U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr. said that he was recently diagnosed with dyscalculia, a learning disability similar to dyslexia that effects a person’s ability to do arithmetic or comprehend numbers.

Speaking publicly about the disability for the first time in an interview with Times Radio, Mullen said he cannot add numbers or count — including bars of music, a task he compared to “climbing Everest.”

“When people watch me play sometimes, they say, ‘you look pained,’” Mullen said. “I am pained because I’m trying to count the bars. I had to find ways of doing this.”

Despite contending with this throughout his life and professional career, Mullen said he was only just diagnosed with dyscalculia. “I’ve always known that there’s something not particularly right with the way that I deal with numbers,” he said. “I’m numerically challenged.”

Sean “Diddy” Combs has voluntarily dropped his bail appeal, meaning the Bad Boy mogul will remain detained until his May 2025 criminal trial.

The 55-year-old has been held without bail at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) since his arrest on September 16, pleading not guilty to s*x trafficking and racketeering charges. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.

Combs’ legal team had been aggressively fighting for his release, putting forward a substantial $50 million bail package, which included his Miami compound, some of his children’s passports, around-the-clock monitoring, and routine drug testing as collateral and terms for his release.

However, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian denied Combs’ bail for a third time last month after Southern District of New York prosecutors accused Combs of being a danger to the community and trying to tamper with witnesses from behind bars.

Killing Heidi is taking a moment to reflect.

Almost 25 years on from its release, "Reflector" still holds a special place in the hearts of music fans, as it does for the Hooper siblings.

Being able to celebrate this music with fans on the 2024 Good Things Festival tour has been an opportunity neither Jesse or Ella Hooper have taken for granted.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind,” Jesse remarks backstage at Good Things.

“Every time, we’ve tried to give it as much as we could, and also squeeze as much as we could out of it. It’s been awesome fun and we’re excited, relieved…it’s been a great time.”

And as Jesse teases, this summer festival run has the best of training grounds for Killing Heidi to lead into the official 25th anniversary year, in 2025.

After sampling her music several years ago, Fred again... has finally teamed up with Angie McMahon.

The new single "light dark light" explores the spectacle of live music, using phone recordings from the crowd at one of McMahon's performances.

The British EDM producer once sampled the Australian singer-songwriter's tracks “Pasta” and “Angie (i’ve been lost)” on his debut album "Actual Life," back in 2022.

Two months after his death, the investigation surrounding Liam Payne’s fatal fall at a Buenos Aires hotel continues to unravel.

According to new documents obtained by Rolling Stone, the judge in the case has charged two workers, including the receptionist head, who called 911, as she investigates them for wrongful death.

The judge has also called for all suspects in the case to be questioned as part of the investigation.

The two workers are being investigated for possible “imprudence, negligence, or lack of skill in [their] profession” leading to the death of another person, according to the statute.

Drake is going west.

The hip-hop megastar adds two more dates to his swelling 2025 trek, "The Anita Max Win Tour," including a rare date in Perth.

As it stands, the tour will kick off with a newly-added show at Perth’s RAC Arena on February 4th, while an additional date is added for Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, on February 13th -- due to "phenomenal demand," a statement reads.

The RAC Arena show will be Drizzy’s first in Perth in a decade. The Canadian rap star last played in WA back in 2015 on the “Would You Like A Tour?", a side show of the now-defunct Future Music Festival.

Produced by Live Nation, "The Anita Max Win Tour" now spans 13 Australasian shows, wrapping with two nights at Auckland’s Spark Arena.

After vanquishing Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, Donald Trump and his team have four more years to try to intimidate and target leakers, whistleblowers, and foes in the media.

That's especially so if situations involve what they claim is highly sensitive information or classified intel.

They intend to use the opportunity.

Rolling Stone spoke with attorneys close to the president-elect, incoming Trump administration officials, and other Republicans who’ve talked to Trump about staunching embarrassing press leaks during a second administration.

“Oh, it’ll be brutal,” says one conservative lawyer who’s discussed certain plans and ideas with Trump and his inner circle. “Gloves off [because] we’ve learned our lessons from the first time and one lesson is you have got to be even more aggressive.”

Emily Wurramara etches her name in the record books.

By snagging the best adult contemporary album at the 2024 ARIA Awards last month, Wurramara becomes the very first Indigenous woman to win the category since the awards inception in 1987. The feat was confirmed Friday by ARIA.

In a social post, Wurramara pays tribute to "all the elders and all the mob who came here in order for me to be here." She adds, "NARA is a big album for me. I am so so honoured to be receiving this ARIA recognition."

Wurramara will embark on an encore album tour early next year in support of "NARA," including her first headline show in Naarm for almost a decade.

“I grew up in Australia so it always felt like it wasn’t really much of a possibility for me to be a singer,” Rosé said.

“So I never really dreamed of it. But I do remember singing until midnight every day and my dad eventually just sent me to an audition because I think he wanted to kick me out.” She added that she spent all her time in the living room singing and playing piano because “Australia is really boring. There’s not much to do.”

The singer recalled her audition for Blackpink, saying she “thought it was a joke” but wanted to make some good memories. “They called me and I was like, ‘What is happening?'”

After more than a year of dating, singer, actress and entrepreneur Selena Gomez and producer-songwriter Benny Blanco are engaged.

Gomez shared the news on Instagram on Wednesday, along with the caption, “forever begins now..” The post included photos of the diamond ring, Gomez admiring it during a picnic, and the happy couple celebrating the moment. In the comments section, Blanco, forever cheeky, wrote: “Hey wait… that’s my wife.”

The couple worked together on Gomez’s 2015 hit song “Same Old Love” and “I Can’t Get Enough” (which also featured Tainy and J Balvin) in 2019, before confirming their relationship in December 2023 and Gomez noting in a since-deleted comment that they had been dating for six months prior.
