I had the priviledge to speak to some colleagues during my recent holiday and the stories were all the same: barriers, blockages, boundaries! I have been terhre and I knwo exactly what it feels like. That is why I have prepared this new blog post to help those who feel stuck in their career: whether you are a recent graduate feeling unsure or unprepared about how to choose or find the right jobs or career to pursue; migrant struggling to identify the right skills to meet the selection criteria for jobs you want, or have ended up working in lower-level roles or lesser paying jobs just to pay your bills; or you may be a mid-level or senior professional feeling you have reached a certain level, can see the top, but there appears to be an invisible barrier or glass ceiling that prevents you from attaining the next level of self-actualization.

In this post, we will discuss some of the strategies that can be used to overcome these challenges.

𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁!
I would like to send a big shoutout to Karen AM Brown and the Jamaican Association of Public Health Inspectors.

Recently I was invited to present at their annual conference in 2024. It was an exciting opportunity to share my work from the southern hemisphere with my compatriots and I was not really expecting anything except the feedback at the session. So, much to my surprise I was presented a lovely basket, 🧁🧁🍇🥦🍍which Ms Brown accepted on my behalf.

This week I was able to collect my basked filled with real Jamaican traditional products that any real Jamaican in the diaspora considers as gold! Ms Brown with her creativity and wicked sense of humour made this gift super special. 🇯🇲 Thank you so much. 🎁🙏

Thanks so much for the beautiful souvenirs as well. I will cherish my JAPHI water bottle, and the other lovely items will be well utilised.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆.

It’s been a while since I have ministered on Jamaican soil. I am truly grateful and thankful for the privilege to use my gifts to serve in my home country, and to stand before great men and women, even God's generals. It was a true privilege and a great honour indeed! 🙏❤️

A massive thanks to the amazing persons who gave me the opportunity and trusted me with their pulpits! I would like to give special honour to the female ministers who allowed me to stand in their pulpits, celebrated and honoured me. This means a GREAT BIG DEAL TO ME! 🙏

Massive thanks Bishop Mark S. Mclean for the invitation to speak in my home church for the first time. This was a spectacular experience that was more like a homecoming service for me at Bamboo New Testament Church of God - Jamaica, where I grew up and accepted the Lord over 38 years ago. Ministering before my fathers was humbling and a great honour all at the same time. I am forever grateful for this privilege.

It was a blessing to see my ministry partners and friends Callet Henry, Stephnie Henry as well as Kishayne Ambersley as well. What an amazing time we had taking a walk down memory lane and encouraging each other.

My goal is to support people - regardless of what they look like, sound like or want to be - to get closer to tehri dreams. 🚗🔍 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 🔍🚗

Recently, I booked a fleet car at work and found myself behind the wheel of a vehicle very similar to our usual white hybrid. With my degree and years of experience, I felt confident in handling any car. However, to my surprise, the car was silent and I worried something was wrong! 🌟

What initially seemed like a malfunction soon turned into a moment of curiosity as I learned that this "issue" was simply the vehicle's innovative design—it hushes to a whisper when idle to conserve energy. 🌱🔇

This experience reminded me of two essential truths:

𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀: The world around us is filled with innovations waiting to be explored. This small experience opened my eyes to the transformative power of curiosity. Embracing curiosity keeps us adaptable and open-minded, which are vital for both personal and professional growt𝗵. 🧠✨

𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗲𝘆: Just as hybrids save energy, we must be ready to adjust our sails to navigate the winds of change. Being adaptable helps us thrive and smoothly shift gears when facing the unknown. 🌬️⛵

I always cherish the opportunity to speak to amazing audiences. One crucial lesson I've learned is the power of thinking on your feet—an indispensable skill for every professional speaker. 🗣️✨

Over the weekend, I was invited to speak at a major event. I was all set with my pointers to stay on topic during my limited speaking time. But surprise! I had to lead an activity just as dinner was being served. 😅🍽️

Drawing on my humor, I made the most of the situation! 🎭 I left the stage without feeling humiliated, and the feedback from the audience was fantastic—they enjoyed the activity and appreciated my presentation. 🎉🙌

This experience taught me valuable lessons that will help me stand out as an effective speaker.

🌟 𝗦𝗲𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 🌟

During my lunch break, I decided to hand out a few flyers for my 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. 📄 As I strolled around in 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗹, 𝗡𝗦𝗪, a sign for 𝗠𝗧𝗖 caught my eye—an organization that inspires people from all walks of life to discover and achieve their ambitions. From employment and training to mentoring and business opportunities, they do it all! 🚀

I made a spontaneous decision to drop by and leave some flyers. As I was about to leave, the manager returned from a break, and we had a quick, invigorating chat. She was thrilled about my collaboration with UNSW Founders in delivering these workshops and the possibilities for collaborating with me. 🤝📚

We discussed our shared goals and plans for the coming year, creating an amazing opportunity to continue supporting migrants in the Liverpool Innovation Precinct! 🌏💼

It's incredible how one small decision to share my vision of building people’s capacity through my skills and experiences led to such abundant opportunities in a short time. I'm super grateful and happy that I've responded to the deep call to do this work. 🙏💪

Since stepping into my new role in 2023, sharing knowledge and building the capacity of my colleagues has become the most impactful part of my work. 🤝💡 Last week, I was incredibly blessed to teach a section of the Improvement Science curriculum during the training provided by my organization.

Diving into data analytics and conducting a critical analysis isn't something I do every day in this role, so I was absolutely thrilled to deliver the topics 𝗼𝗻 "𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿es" 𝗮𝗻𝗱 "𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮ct." 📊🔍

I understand that data can be intimidating, and many people feel overwhelmed when faced with analyzing it as part of their quality improvement work. But I truly believe that God has given me the ability to help others see that there's nothing to fear in data! 🙌✨
