🌟 Reflecting on Yesterday's Tribute: Honoring French Heroes Silas Despreaux and Damien Guerot 🇫🇷🇦🇺
Yesterday marked a significant moment as Silas Despreaux and Damien Guerot were honoured for their extraordinary bravery during the Bondi Junction attack. Their selfless actions were recognised with the National Order of Merit (Ordre national du Mérite), awarded by the French Ambassador Pierre-Andre Imbert on behalf of President Emmanuel Macron.

The ceremony took place at the New South Wales Parliament and was attended by Her Excellency Margaret Beazley, Governor of New South Wales, and Premier Minns, along with members of the Friends of France parliamentary group, The Hon Natalie Ward MLC and The Hon Trish Doyle MP. This event highlighted the strong ties between France and Australia, united by shared values of bravery, compassion, and civic responsibility.

Silas and Damien are heroes not only for France but for everyone. Their courageous actions serve as a powerful reminder of human solidarity in the face of adversity. Their honor is a source of collective pride for all.

📸 Retour en images sur la cérémonie de remise de l’Ordre national du Mérite à Silas Despreaux et Damien Guérot, les deux héros français de l’attaque de Bondi Junction en avril 2024

Ce jeudi 5 juin s’est tenue la cérémonie de remise de la deuxième plus haute distinction française, après la Légion d’Honneur, aux deux français ayant intervenu lors de l’attentat au couteau du centre commercial Westfield de Bondi Junction.

L’évènement s’est déroulé au Parlement de Nouvelle-Galles du Sud en présence de la Gouverneur, Margaret Beazley, et du Premier ministre de Nouvelle-Galles du Sud, Chris Minns.

Au nom du Président français Emmanuel Macron, Silas Despreaux et Damien Guérot se sont vus récompensés de cette médaille par l’ambassadeur de France en Australie, Pierre-André Imbert, au terme d’une cérémonie riche en fierté et en émotion.

This Thursday, June 5, saw the presentation of France’s second-highest honor, after the Légion d’Honneur, to the two Frenchmen who intervened in the knife attack at Bondi Junction’s Westfield shopping center.

The event took place at the New South Wales Parliament in the presence of the Governor, Her Excellency Margaret Beazley, and the Premier of New South Wales,  the Hon. Chris Minns.

On behalf of French President Emmanuel Macron, Silas Despreaux and Damien Guérot were awarded the medal by the French Ambassador to Australia, Pierre-André Imbert, at the end of a ceremony rich in pride and emotion.

❓What happened during this period?

👉The "populate or perish" philosophy broadened migration, welcoming British immigrants and post-war Europeans.

👉 In 1948, France and Australia officially established diplomatic relations, marked by the opening of an embassy in Canberra.

👉 The government transitioned from a wartime to a peacetime economy, focusing on rebuilding infrastructure, boosting industrial production, and sustaining population growth to expand the workforce.

👉 In 1949, the question of forming a Pacific defense coalition was on the agenda.
