How special is hip-hop!!!And how special especially is hip-hop on the radio!

Radio lends itself naturally to story telling, so it should be no surprise that hip-hop and radio go hand and hand.

Tonight on the show we’ll be having a real party in the studio - lots of friends and mad creators in our scene are coming through to hang out, play music, have fun together, and celebrate hip-hop’s 50th birthday.

Tonight we're being joined by the super-talented and .skels live in the .3 studios.

Off the back of her debut single release this week Riz will be talking all things upcoming music, her style, and influences, as well as work with producer and collaborator Skels.

Skels is part of the crew and released his own EP back in November called 'Glass Half Full'. This EP is full of dusty, jazz-heavy joints and killer lyricism.

Get ready for an absolutely monster show lined up this week on the New Style - we’re super lucky to have the crew pulling up to the studio this Friday.

Darksyde is a Sydney collective of artists, say that “darksyde is us representing where we are from and who we are, even how we move. We do what we want on the darksyde and in the field that we are in it was important to make that clear.”

Ill P () is a native of Riverwood NSW. He has worked in and made connections in Sydney's hip hop scene going as far back as 2008, and released his first song on streaming services in 2020. It lead to a stellar rookie year consisting of his first and second EP, as well as a breakout single and features with some of Sydney's best.

Skep () is darksyde’s head producer and engineer and played both roles on both of Ill P’s EPs. Skep’s unique style and sound is magnified when with Ill P, a sound that isn't influenced by the state of the scene. Also a veteran behind the scenes, 2022 is the year skep put his foot forward after producing, mixing and mastering darksyde music he released his first album "Don't Get It Twisted" and dropped a music video for its lead single "Plateau".

JBtheYEAR (.the.year) & DZR (.dzr) have both owned this season of music, enjoying a string of releases to kick off and carry the year. They are 2 artists with different style that help show the versatility of the group’s producer. Originality is important, and that is what makes these guys who specialise in story telling and reminiscent lyrics stand out artist’s in today's scene.

To separate this independent group from others, darksyde stands up when it comes to the BUSINESS of live performance - holding 2 events and the 3rd upcoming at Sydney's legendary factory theatre, without the help of managers, label A & R, or heavy financial backing. Artist’s willing to work, who stand on and behind their art, representing freedom, free speech and free spirits, is doing it like no one here in Australia has done before, trying to reach a treasure no one else has reached. THAT is darksyde...

We’ve been lucky to have so many great guests on the show of late and tonight is no exception. One of Sydney’s finest will be live in the 2SER 107.3 FM] studios tonight!

Rapper, guitarist, producer, Rapaport (He / Him) articulates personal thought bubbles, survival mantras and opaque moments through a sound influenced by grime, art rap, jazz and soul. Dense lyrics, dry humour, electric guitars dripped in reverb and a slapping drum break are most of his favourite things. Rapaport lives and creates on Gadigal Land.

With a show on the horizon at next weekend it was the perfect time to have him come in to perform and talk about his newer releases.
