Sunday 5 May - Discipleship (by Honourable Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa - Prime Minister of Samoa)
Read 1 Timothy 6:11–21
Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the profane
chatter and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge (v.20)
I left Samoa to attend boarding school in New Zealand when I was eleven years old 1969. My mother left home at a young age to attend school in New Zealand in 1945. Her father wrote to her and her siblings every week, as she did for me when I went away to school.
These letters came by sea in the earlier years and then by air later. These days, when I write or receive letters or messages electronically, it is instantaneous. My mother wrote about the happenings at home and gave advice on issues I had asked about, but she always reminded me of the values I had been raised by and reaffirmed that we were a family grounded in the Christian faith.
Paul’s letters to Timothy were designed to convey correct Christian doctrine and practice and authorise him as his apostolic messenger.
Reading the daily messages from Fresh from The Word and writing this contribution is like the receiving and sending of letters, reaffirming our faith, as manifested in the way we profess, in
words and in action, that we live in a renewed world as people who are saved through the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, our Saviour and Redeemer.
† Lord God, teach us to know your will in our daily lives and give us the courage to allow your will to be done.
(1 Timoteo 6: 20) - "Timoteo e, ia e tausi i le mea na tu‘uina atu iā te oe. Ia 'alo‘alo ese i upu leaga ma le lē aogā, ma finauga i mea ua igoa pepelo ai o le iloa."
*****Na ou tu'ua Samoa ae alu i le a’oga nofotumau i Niu Sila ina ua sefulutasi o’u tausaga i le 1969. Na tu'ua fo'i e lo’u tinā lo’u aiga a’o la'iti'iti ae alu i le a’oga i Niu Sila i le 1945.
