Awareness 👀

What if I told you that until you become aware of your ‘stuff’ you’re not going to be able to address it or move forward.

Often, we are not really aware of what’s going on at the deeper (subconscious) level, as the all powerful big gun kahuna, being the subconscious, may be hiding things from us for various reasons.

This is why Hypnotherapy prevails as one of my favourite mental health tools. It gets to the core, quickly and efficiently.

Quick little trip to the cabin for a refresh and some grounding before a big week ahead.

There's nothing quite like escaping into the bush to calm the mind and bring down inflammation in the body.

We did some wonderful jiggle therapy, danced, played, and grounded barefoot in the bush.

I'm always so grateful to be able to do this and send thanks to the universe for gifting me a love of mother nature.

No filter, no tweaking, just a moment in time to enjoy simple pleasures.

Slowing down to appreciate our abundant gifts is often the best therapy. 😊

Most people have experienced some form of trauma in their lives. Few of us get by unscathed.

Trauma is often defined as any single, ongoing, or cumulative distressing event that overwhelms our capacity to cope.

The causes and triggers of trauma are diverse and different for every individual. What may be considered traumatic for one person, may be something quite normal for another. Trauma is very much a personal response.

Below are the types of trauma we identify and work with as your therapist:

Acute Trauma
Complex Trauma
System Induced Trauma
Vicarious Trauma
Compassion Fatigue
Insidious or Historical Trauma
Epigenetic Trauma
*Not an exhaustive list, but the main culprits

When we are highly stressed or in situation that is unfamiliar and scary our limbic system sets off an alarm bell signalling danger. Our brains then release cortisol to help us feel and stay safe by using our Fight/Flight/Freeze/Face/Fawn instincts.

At this time, we either Engage (fight/face) or Disengage (flight/freeze).

Understanding your trauma and the why of how it makes you feel and react is the first step in the therapeutic journey.

Trauma may affect the following parts of your life;

Physical Health
Mental Health
Social Life
Relationships
Belief Systems
Executive Functioning
Learning and Memory Retention

Thankfully, there are ways we can regulate our responses and bring a dysregulated mind back to calm/regulation.

Pet Loss Grief Counselling

A lovely reminder that one of the counselling services we offer is that of Pet Loss Grief Counselling.

This is undoubtedly my most loved type of counselling and one that I always find so very rewarding.

Pets play a huge role in our lives, fulfilling many emotional states, such as joy, comfort, protection, and friendship.

It is not unusual for pet owners to refer to their pets as 'fur children' or even 'soul mates.'

When a beloved pet passes, the grief is immense. Many pet owners report amid the grief there is also a deep and foreboding sense of shame and embarrassment due to the overwhelming and sometimes completely debilitating reaction to the loss.

As we struggle with the grief process, many pet lovers find non pet lovers dismissive, or unable to understand the level of sadness and utter despair felt as our loyal and loving pets are no longer with us.

There are 3 Primary types of Bonding with your pet, these are:

Conventionally
Intensely
Uniquely

When these bonds are broken through loss, we may experience a whole spectrum of different grief responses.

Be the things you loved most about the people who are gone. 💜

When working with clients around grief and loss, we often suggest this as a way of paying homage to our loved ones who are now ascended.

Remembering, replicating, reproducing all of the beloved little things can be a wonderful way of moving through grief into gratitude and appreciation.

Our loved ones are never truly forgotten while we speak their names, carry on their little legacies or continue to do what they did.

Our ambient cottage clinic in now open in Penrith for those preferring a more intimate and personal setting.

James continues to work from Norwest, while I, (Vicki) will be working from the home clinic.

A lovely little reminder for our community.

You are allowed to rest and be imperfect, you are not a robot.

The last few days, I have been following my own advice, spending more time in the garden, with my pets and being present with those I love.

It has made a noticeable difference in just 3 days.

Self-compassion is key to living a happy and fulfilling life. Here are six practical ways to cultivate self-compassion:

1️⃣ Speak kindly to yourself: Use a supportive tone, especially when things go wrong. Practice patience, love, and understanding toward yourself.

2️⃣ Ask yourself what you need: Acknowledge that your needs are valid.

3️⃣ Validate your pain: Recognize and accept your emotional experience.

4️⃣ Write a self-compassionate letter: Put pen to paper and offer yourself words of comfort and encouragement, just as you would to someone you love.

5️⃣ Remember you aren’t alone: We all face challenges, and this imperfection is what makes us human.

6️⃣ Treat yourself like a friend: Be supportive and helpful toward yourself.
