SHANNON Bishop is one of many university students isolated from family while restrictions are in place.
The 21-year-old is another Swan Hillian using the new-found free time to do something positive while trying to maintain online studies through Deakin University in Melbourne.
"It's been a great distraction from the boredom of isolation and I've been picking up the guitar and practicing a lot more often," she said.
"I might just pick it up for 10 minutes and have a play around but I'm doing it a lot more times throughout the day than I usually would.
"In fact, it's probably a bit of a distraction to my studies as well."
Although studying a degree in psychology, she has plans to continue her music and said once restrictions were eased she would be back in the recording studio to lay down some original tracks.
Shannon recorded this exclusive cover version of Moments, by Bliss N Eso, for The Guardian.
Mother's Day message to Daniel Andrews
Piangil's Jeanette Young wrote a song addressed to Daniel Andrews requesting he let families see each other on Mother's Day. The tongue in cheek video has gone viral on the internet with more than 15,000 views and the mother of five and grandmother of 10 said she was shocked to see people's reaction to it. She said she originally recorded it to let her grandchildren know she was thinking of them. To learn more about her story, grab a copy of today's edition of The Guardian.
Tullie Roberts - cover Don't worry Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin
Tullie Roberts is a fair way from home having left her family in Swan Hill to study childcare in Albury NSW.
Despite the distance, she's been entertaining the community with her musical talent via Facebook and spreading a positive message about mental health at the same time.
Struggling with the thought of isolating so far from home after losing her jobs, she decided to use the time to help lift the spirits of others.
"I went to work on Saturday and woke up Sunday morning completely unemployed after losing three jobs overnight," she said.
"I am a singing teacher, have a regular job at a local bar and also do a variety of different gigs and they all ceased due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
"I was really stressed to the max and rang mum and she suggested I try to find something positive to do with my time."
Tullie grabbed hold of the idea and used her time to hone her own musical skills further and when he mother, Mel Roberts, commented that it was a shame she couldn't hear it, Tullie decided to share her music on Facebook.
Starting on March 28, she started uploading performances from her home, accompanied by a keyboard or ukulele.
Each song was preluded by a message of support and positivity about mental health.
