In 2015, I was reaching the end of my Certificate 111 in Hairdressing (I already had my Beauty, Nails & Massage Diploma from 2005, plus a Diploma in Floristry - this was my overly ambitious/addicted to education additional training I thought I needed too. Anyway, I asked the question “where’s all the stuff on promoting your business?” I was shown to a few pages inside of a lesson booklet which sh

owed things like “display advertising for shops and shelves” and “business cards to hand out” and other things of a somewhat archaic nature. So with an extremely confused look on my face I asked “what about Facebook and Instagram?” to which the replay came “yep you can do that too” ?????? This baffled me.....I had grown my bridal makeup and hairstyling business for the previous 7 years using the power of Facebook and when they created “business pages” and paid ads - I was all over it like a rash, going from freelance beauty therapist to part-time bridal stylist raking in a full time wage. I built up a successful wedding business 3 times (we moved a lot) and I owe it all to the strategies I created for myself using Facebook and by the 3rd move, Instagram too became my go-to source for getting clients. And yet not once were they mentioned in my course? Its 2015 and noone in the school is teaching social media? At this point, I realised that there was a huge lack of education in our industry and in turn that became my number 1 obsession. It was coincidently at this time I discovered a platform called “Persicope” (the Facebook Live of TWITTER). There were these amazing hair educators (the hair-besties community - Guy Tang, Ruby Divine, The Hairdo Chick) and they were all live-streaming their days in their salons. Colour formulations, balayage techniques - it was amazing. I started following them, then connecting with their followers, then seeking out makeup artists. It was like a whole underground world, I’d never known about. Then I connected with the amazing Britt Seva and Ray Torregano who showed me that there was also a niche for business education and I realised that there was a gap for me. NOONE was teaching BRIDAL and more specifically, how to grow a business in the Bridal Industry.................Aaaaand side steps Dawn..........turns on the periscope camera and the rest they say is history........After a few progressive name changes Bridal Business School was formed. Twice a week I livestream right here on the Bridal Business School page, tips and tricks to help you build a successful bridal business. Along with the weekly “Bridal Business” podcast, you can listen to on your favourite Podcast App. We have a free Global Facebook Community where we share tools, thoughts, opinions and our bridal hair and makeup results.
