If the GFS model is right and a category 1 cyclone crosses SEQ on 18 December, how would this affect you?

Mind you EC and CMC models have a similar low in the area

Maybe interesting times ahead

I'm out west again guys, at Meandarra.Sorry no SMURF Reports by David Heirdsfield until 18/12/24

BOM has updated their thunderstorm forecast for today, in my personal opinion, I think the most risk will be more coastal areas today, mainly rain, hail cores and wind.

οΏΌBom:-

β›ˆοΈ Thunderstorm FORECAST for TODAY: Severe storms likely in & possible east of Dalby and south of Gladstone. Risk of large to giant hail, damaging to destructive winds & heavy rainfall.

Wednesday is looking NASTY south central QLD & north central NSW! β›ˆοΈβš οΈ

Modelling is now coming into significant agreement regarding Wednesdays storm potential β›ˆοΈ across south central QLD & north central NSW where the risk of SEVERE to VERY DANGEROUS thunderstorms β›ˆοΈβš οΈ has dramatically increased across the forecast region with a classic dry line storm setup likely occurring, leading to the development of multiple very dangerous supercell thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.

I have decided to update my initial forecast to highlight the significantly heightened risk of SEVERE to VERY DANGEROUS thunderstorms β›ˆοΈβš οΈ across the forecast region on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
So what can we expect now? β›ˆοΈπŸ€”
Detailed and updated forecast for WEDNESDAY)

Widespread showers 🌧️ and thunderstorms β›ˆοΈ are expected to develop across the entire forecast region during the afternoon and evening on Wednesday with activity tracking towards the east to north east.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
Across the PINK/PURPLE 🟣 hatched areas:

Patchy SEVERE to Isolated VERY DANGEROUS thunderstorms β›ˆοΈβš οΈ (supercells) are possible across the PINK/PURPLE 🟣 hatched area during the afternoon and evening.

Within severe thunderstorms hazards such as DAMAGING winds πŸ’¨ and LARGE hailstones 🧊may develop.

Within VERY DANGEROUS thunderstorms β›ˆοΈβš οΈ hazards such as DESTRUCTIVE WINDS πŸ’¨ (120km/h+) GIANT hailstones 🧊 (potentially up to 6-8cm) HEAVY rainfall 🌧️ and very frequent lightning ⚑️are expected.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
Across the BLACK ⚫️ hatched area:

Widespread (but discrete) DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS β›ˆοΈβš οΈ ( supercells) are likely across the BLACK ⚫️ hatched area during the afternoon and evening.

Within these dangerous thunderstorms hazards such as DESTRUCTIVE winds πŸ’¨ (120km/h+ possibly stronger) GIANT hailstones 🧊 (6-8cm, some may reach over 10cm) HEAVY rainfall 🌧️ and very frequent lightning ⚑️ are expected.

There is the slight chance that if one or two of these supercell thunderstorms can sustain themselves for long enough and can remain discrete, funnel clouds or even the odd weak and brief TORNADO πŸŒͺ️ may occur within the BLACK ⚫️ hatched area however this low end possibility is highly dependent on atmospheric conditions on the day and whether or not these storms can remain discrete for long enough.(which is certainly possible given the environment they will be in)
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
Elsewhere my initial forecast remains the same (SEQ, Sunny coast ect) with widespread thunderstorms β›ˆοΈ (some severe) possible on Wednesday. Dangerous storms are unlikely east of the divide apart from the central QLD coast and areas of the Sunshine Coast.

Regarding Tuesday my initial forecast has remained similar aswell, with severe thunderstorms expected across SEQ, NENSW, the sunny coast and adjacent inland areas during the afternoon and evening.

The only detail that has changed is the chance of VERY DANGEROUS thunderstorms β›ˆοΈβš οΈ has slightly increased across SEQ and NENSW during the afternoon and evening where GIANT hailstone, DESTRUCTIVE winds and short lived heavy rainfall can be expected with those storms.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Take care and stay safe on both Tuesday and Wednesday with these severe to dangerous storms about, of course if it is safe to do so feel free to send me through any storm related photos or videos (via messenger) you get and I might post them up to the page!

Make sure to follow WEDM for more detailed forecasts like this! 😁
