So are blood donors.⁠

Without blood donors, I wouldn't have had countless opportunity to spend time with my family. Both this one right here and the extended families that have come into my life because of selfless blood donors.⁠

Recently, I was on the podcast (link in bio) speaking about being a very grateful recipient of multiple blood donations.

During the podcast, Kate, the host, read an open letter that I'd written to my blood donors alongside a wedding photo of Ren and I.⁠

Here's a condensed version of the letter that was published in the ...

Dear Stranger,

Thank you for helping to save my life. I wouldn’t be writing this if it wasn’t for you.

We don’t know each other but if I met you I’d give you a hug, shake your hand, buy you a coffee, or something like that. I have you to thank that I’m here today. I don’t mean to sound melodramatic, that’s just the truth.

That day you decided to give blood was just another day for you. You made a last-minute decision to donate and squeezed the visit in between grocery shopping and an important deadline at work.

But to be honest, I don’t care how or when you did it. The point is, you DID it. You took a few minutes from your day which helped ensure a lifetime of minutes would follow for me.

Thank you for your noble generosity. You expected and received nothing in return except for an immense glow of satisfaction. I certainly hope that is what you experienced because it’s definitely what you deserve.

I am so grateful for your kindness. You have no idea how much your generosity has meant to my family and I. You’ll never meet my mum, dad, brother and sister but they also want to send their immense thanks.

My husband wants to thank you too. He’s a wonderful man and I wish you could meet him. We got married a couple of years ago.

I wanted to send you a photo from our wedding but I didn’t have your address – so I’m writing this instead. I really hope it reaches you.

It’s been a while between Milkshakes for Marleigh episode drops but a very exciting one came out today about the Australian baby born in Ukraine, 11 weeks early and the day before Russia invaded.

Jess joins me to talk about how she needed blood donors from all over the world to help keep her baby girl alive so she could .

Jess is a Blood Donor and Exercise Physiologist with a passion for inclusivity for people with visible and invisible disabilities.
Elana is a Physiotherapist who has a brother whose life was saved by Australian blood donors and now lives with a disability.

They have combined their lived experiences and professional experience, working side-by-side in a Rehabilitation Unit in a hospital, to be co-founders and co-CEO's of The Accessibility, Sensory needs and Inclusivity Index. They are on a mission to create the benchmark for Accessible Tourism and support people with disabilities to have greater access to more community settings.

July is Disability Pride Month and an occasion to celebrate people with disabilities, honour their dignity and rights, promote visibility and applaud achievements. Jess and Elana are incredible Australian champions for people with disabilities and valued members of The Milkshakes for Marleigh community.

Siobhan is a blood product recipient and picture of post traumatic growth. She is an ex-27 week preemie, born more than 3 months early and recipient of many, many blood products. She joins me today with her mum, Fiona who is also a blood product recipient, having needed a transfusion following a the birth of Siobhan's older sister.

Siobhan has founded and is on a mission to make sick kids feel less alone. She supports young people all over Australia who are facing a variety of traumas and challenges, through telling her story and using her experiences to create resources like support packs, sensory toys and picture books.

How lucky we are that blood donors saved the lives of these two remarkable Queensland women!

Regular listeners of The Milkshakes for Marleigh Podcast will know I have my own private practice on The Sunshine Coast in Queensland where provide Non-Directive Child-Centred Play Therapy to my clients. I established this practice after seeing the incredible success of Play Therapy for Marleigh during her prolonged hospitalisations for treatment of Autoimmune Encephalitis.

This week I am in Darwin for The National Play Therapy Conference. Learning so much about how best to serve my clients.

At Kate Fisher Play Therapy I work with kids aged 2 - 12 across a broad range of challenges and trauma. My specialist area is working with children and families who have experienced medical trauma.

Today we launch Season Three of The Milkshakes for Marleigh Podcast with the story of Mateoh’s Journey With CGD And Haemolytic Anemia.

S3. Ep1. A mothers love.
Shalyn needs our help to save the life of her 5 year old son, Mateoh.

Mateoh is just 5 years old and has recieved blood products from hundreds of Australian blood donors. Mateoh is fighting a colossal battle against Chronic Granulomatous Disorder (CGD) and Haemolytic Anaemia.

He has recently undergone his second bone marrow transplant in a final bid to save his life. Australian blood donors have preserved his life and given him a fighting chance to grow up with his 3 siblings and his fierce Mumma, Shalyn.

Mateoh needs us to donate blood to keep him alive. He also needs the miracle of financial support to get him to St Jude's Hospital in Tennessee so that he can participate in a medical trial that may save his life and also help to save the lives of others life him, all over the world.

Tomorrow I am attending the The Women Changing the World Global Summit and tomorrow night the Awards Ceremony, in London.

I am the only Australian finalist in my category and it’s such an honour to be representing Australia.
