Sassenach, when the Frasers Ridge episodes started to air all viewers kept demanding "Why aren't they looking at the camera??? Why are they looking away from us???!!!"
Firstly, in many of the episode intro portraits it's actually not Catriona Balfe or Sam Heughan but models.
Secondly, the answer to that question is it's about "their view".
That is, their view of Frasers Ridge because this is where the focus of the series now turns to :)
What do you think I'm looking at? Doesn't the portrait make you curious?
It shows and suggests the portrait is about more than the portrait of me but what is making me smile :) Laine.

Sassenach, did you purchase The Sassench by Sam Heughan? You will be very happy as "The Lallybroch wine totes" will hold it!
It will fit bottles up to one litre and will keep your drink cooler in the upcoming warmer weather :)
This wine tote features a different image of Lally on the front and back.
SlΓ‘inte Sassenach!! :) :) Laine.

This wine tote will fit that as it holds between 750 ml- 1 litre and will keep your drink cool.

One of my dreams come true was taking portraits in the location of one of my absolute favourite movies: The Sound Of Music.
The first 2 images are at Mirabell Garden in Salzburg :)
The second was taking these portraits along The Charles Bridge.
Current life experiences (managing a potentially life threatening and very rare bleeding disorder) has me looking back on memories that bring me gratitude of making sure I lived my life with intention knowing I would have a shorter life than most of my friends and family :)

The life lessons photography taught me:
It's almost too exhausting to even think about picking up a camera these days which is one example I have to overcome how much that hurts BUT....;
What my photography taught me more than anything was to take advantage of opportunities such as these when they arise.
My photography inspired me to live life to the full despite the chronic pain I managed. I'm so grateful for that because now I have some pretty awesome memories to look back on :)
Back in 2011 I made a decision to start travel photography to prove to those who thought we lived in such a bad world how much beauty there was in the world around us.
I wanted to depict the beauty in such a way where I learnt to digitally paint my images being I couldn't actually paint.
I did because many scenes "out there" were so beautiful for me it was more like a painting so I had to work to present it as such.
I also did because I was always wanting to paint the way my late mum could paint so beautifully but I could only paint in Photoshop on my Wacom tablet.
We live in a beautiful world :)

Who remembers where Glen Coe was used in Outlander?
Me actually climbing the mountain..... or who thinks I was just pretending to? 🀣 Laine.

This time a Welsh castle- Raglan Castle which I visited in 2016 and a Welsh friend gave me a tour. Just amazing.
My friend knew I had some British Ancestry so he loved joking with me all throughout the time we were walking around; "It was built to keep you lot out!!" 🀣
I guess it must not have worked with me 🀣
See the first comment for the Wales website about the castle. It really was fascinating walking around in it. Laine.

Melbourne Sassenach's (or other Aussie's) who wish they could go to Scotland who can't but want the closest thing:
Pleeeeeeeeeeease spend time in the Victorian High Country.
I spent many of my school holidays at Easter time there growing up.
Having spent years camping and driving in the VHC with my family it was why I knew I would love Scotland the way I did.
We even got to visit "Jim's Hut" from The Man From Snowy River!! :)
The Victorian High Country is one of the most beautiful places on earth :)

MY GOALS AND DREAMS FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS AND WHY: MY INTENTION WAS TO SHOW OTHER WOMEN THEIR BEAUTY AND HELP THEM REALISE THEIR WORTH.
COUNTRIES: England, Finland, France, USA.
I've told people for 20 years I had to live my dreams earlier than others knowing I'd be getting Cancer around now. People didn't think it was real, but I know they do now.
My dreams could be summarised as travelling the world with my work to help other women see their beauty and know their worth.
I set off on my own but not able to do this on my own.
Along the way I met Makeup Artists who were willing to donate their time and ladies willing to get in front of a stranger they didn't know from the other side of the world in the hope of the beautiful portraits that I promised them.
In most cases I INSISTED the ladies I photographed weren't models because then other women would believe they only looked beautiful in the portrait because they were one.
I know this because of how many clients insisted the women on my websites were only beautiful because they "must be a model".
They were astounded when I explained they weren't but that was what also helped them have faith in my abilities to be able to do the same for them (no matter what their age or body type).
This was SO important to me because I endured a lot of bullying growing up due to being physically disabled and having a speech impediment.
I am only here now because the school Counsellor handed me Louise Hay's book "You Can Heal Your Life" and I did.
I know what it's like to feel so discriminated against that I felt like I didn't deserve to be here.
Instead of "giving up" I decided what I really wanted to do was discover and experience what happiness was.
This was around my final years of school and I genuinely didn't know what happiness felt like let alone how to achieve it.
Louise Hay helped me finally establish a positive relationship with myself.
That's why in the first place I could give myself permission to dream and achieve my dreams.
What makes me angry is seeing beautiful and popular women live life in a state of self loathing and self hate and they have no reason to.
To me they have no idea of what discrimination is like (maybe that is my own discrimination there).
For me the only way to overcome being discriminated was to learn self love and acceptance and then it didn't matter what others thought.
What I also wanted to show women I was working with is these feelings of self disempowerment and self loathing is common amongst women of **all races and cultures**.
I wanted to see for myself if it was true and it is.
Hundreds of thousands of women experience these feelings worldwide and it's a shocking discovery.
As most know the life of my maternal side of my family was born out of escaping Genocide. That is, discrimination against individuality and an attempt to eradicate that.
Hence why it has always been my goal to show that no matter who you are, what race you are, what position in life you are, what gender you identify as or what culture you conform to that you deserve to be loved.
You deserve to have someone show you your beauty and you are worth every bit of good that you feel you don't deserve.
Once you truly believe in that that's when you not only start to dream again but you give yourself permission to achieve your dreams.
You can finally stop asking the questions "Why can't I have that/ do that/ experience that" too? :)

For those interested in History: The Jewish Ghetto in Vilnius, Lithuania 2018.
This is where the Jewish were taken by the Nazi's before they were moved to the concentration camps. They were taken here given promises of a better life and work opportunities.
It meant they were more hidden from the remainder of the Vilnius population.
The accomodation was poorly and often housing several Jewish families in one small dwelling.
The Jewish were moved here so that slowly the Nazi's could separate the families taking them to the concentration camps.
Initially this started with the first born sons until entire families were transported.
Locals are now trying to replace these memories with happier ones by establishing trendy cafes;

Fans of the late Queen Elizabeth will appreciate this:
Sassenach, my Birthday is September 27th but I had not yet been born when this area was established.
My Paternal Grandfather was a British Soldier in WWII and a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
That is why it's so important to me to honour and pay our respects to our men and women in service.
The Commando Memorial is a Category A listed monument in Lochaber and a location worth visiting :) Laine.

Sassenach, what to do when you can't travel:
I love when Facebook brings up memories such as these which was my first time in Scotland in 2017 since 1999 :)
Due to health reasons I haven't been able to travel since 2020. I previously couldn't relate to it when followers told me "Your work makes me feel as though I am THERE!!!".
Now I do as I have to enjoy sights of the world through my past work, friends travels or on the internet in general.
This is why photos are so important on your travel journey because whether it be due to health reasons or more than likely age one day you won't be able to travel.
How will you remember your experiences?
A friend is currently travelling through Africa and I am so loving his photos as they are making me feel like I am there.
Even if you don't like seeing yourself in photos take Selfie's when you travel make sure you take them!! :) :)
You never even have to look at them until decades later when you can no longer travel.
Nothing shows how a place made you feel more than your expressions in your Selfie's. You connect with and remember THAT.
Not if you do or don't like what you're wearing etc. You focus on the joy you're clearly projecting how that place made you feel :)

Advice for Heathrow Airport. What's funny in listening to past videos of mine I can hear how my accent changes as I spent a lot of time in other countries.
Having English Ancestry I'm often told I sound British anyway but here there's words I'm definitely expressing in an English accent!!! 🀣🀣 Laine.

Some of my other work I did throughout Europe:
I had to learn how to photograph in challenging environmental situations very quickly in Europe whether it was for a portrait, landscape or architectural image.
Conditions I simply don't have to manage on the beautiful Gold Coast of Australia.
1/ One of the most difficult portrait sessions I've done is this one in Iceland.
What isn't obvious is whilst I was photographing I had snow being blown into my camera!!
I had my amazing top of the line $2,000 Profoto equipment with me and it kept not firing due to the snow 🀣🀣
It's a good thing I'm more of a natural/ flat lighting photographer :)
I still love how this turned out :)
