I STAND WITH MYSELF!
OK, I'm probably going to lose some friends over this ... hopefully not a wife of 47 years ... But I refuse to say I love the Emperor's New Clothes any longer!
Let me see if I've got this straight ...
Hamas, a bunch of known terrorists backed by Iran, a terrorist country ... fly hang gliders, motorised parachutes and drive cars out of their walled enclave of Gaza at dawn ...
They attack a new age festival and several small communes/communities/kibbutzes nearby ...
They murder 1200 (mostly) unarmed men, women and children/babies ... filming the rapes and murders of women and babies for the internet and recruiting ...
They also kidnap 250 more men, women and children as hostages before scurrying back to their tunnels under Gaza ...
And they do this in Israel, one of the most heavily armed and defensive countries in the world.
What did these terrorists expect to happen?
Who is the victim here? This is Israel's Pearl Harbour ... and 9/11 ... in a country that has certainly taken a few licks since WW2. And both of those resulted in pretty severe responses.
This happened THREE MONTHS AGO! ... and precipitated a retaliation unlike any before ...
Yet it has become the elephant in the room ... nobody seems to talk about the initial attack, rapes, murders, or kidnappings anymore.
I think I've lost count of the peace summits with US Presidents ... usually after the wars and major skirmishes ... between the then Palestinian leader and the current Israeli leader ... resulting in a photo op and an accord agreeing on a new homeland or some other benefit, yet the offer is always allowed to expire and hostilities resume.
I don't think Hamas or ANY of the Palestinian terrorist organisations want conflict with Israel to stop. They want to be the victims. That's how you get the money. Fire rockets from hospital roofs or school playgrounds in Gaza and automatic systems shoot back ... and fingers point at Israel for being the heartless aggressor. It's a lose/lose situation.
I have lots of Jewish friends. I am Jewish (ethnically) myself ... I have been to Israel. I live in a country with quite considerable Jewish and Muslim populations, most of them refugees or death camp survivors.
I don't stand with Israel or with Palestine. I stand with myself, and with Australia, half a world away. I would just like this s**t to be over. It has been going since 1947, before most people fighting it were born.
Please stop before there is nobody left.
