There has been a bit of 'hype' around the .au domains and if you already have a .com.au should you purchase .au as well?
You can sit on either side of the fence on this one - some say 100% grab your businessname.au while you can, others say don't bother.
Let's spell it out: A domain name ending in .au signifies that the person or organisation using it has a connection Australia.
In .au we have several different namespaces serving different sectors and purposes and with different rules for who can register them and what name they can have.
com.au
For commercial entities, such as companies (with an ABN or ACN as registered through ASIC), and businesses (registered with state governments).
net.au
For commercial entities, such as companies (with an ABN/ACN as registered through ASIC), and businesses (registered with state governments).
org.au
For charities and non-profit organisations.
and the list goes on ......
If you already have yourbusiness.com.au it would be worth considering also purchasing yourbusiness.au for the small fee involved to ensure someone else isn't going to copy your business.
You can always re-direct (point) domain names to the one advertised address. As all .au domains are now on the open market to purchase, it's time to consider if you should also be purchasing yourbusiness.au π
