This week Roz White chats with Charlie from The Bee Man

Today, I am chatting with one of our most fascinating producers, in fact, I have never seen a more passionate and interesting producer from the myriad of farmers and creators we source from. Let me tell you a little about my guest today...

A boat builder by trade, it was 1974 and Charlie Hacker found himself helping his mate, beekeeper John Rosser, with some queen rearing and bee moving. Alas, almost 50 years on, Charlie continues to be enthralled by what became his profession, a Sunshine Coast honey producer, owner, and operator of The Bee Man Honey, based in Pomona, near Noosa on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

Described by some as a living legend, certainly someone I admire and respect and generally enjoy catching up with…….in his own words ‘it’s quite thrilling to be on a honey flow chase, building the bees up and requeening the hives’ I am also thrilled to have Charlie here with me today, to talk all things bee’s

Our honey has different colours, textures and flavours. All trees produce unique flowers and this gives types of honey with ranges in yummy shades of light yellow through to darker orange. Some examples include River Gum, Black mangrove, brush box, Tea Tree, Iron bark, Bloodwood, Blue gum and Leptospermum Liversidgeiare our local Manuka active honey.
