JELLY SOIL 😲 You wouldn’t want to be stuck in this! This footage was taken by Jamie Spence, Borden, on August 5. “We had 29mm over yesterday, but much of the farm has dried to the point that only the ‘normal’ bog spots remain. Paddock travel is doable across the majority of the farm,” Mr Spence said. At the time, the farm had received about 410mm of rain, and year to date it has had 477mm.
At Williams on the Rintoul family's farm, dams have gone from 30 to 50 per cent full to overflowing in the past two weeks. Up until August 3 the property had received 477 millimetres of rain for the year compared to 424mm for the whole of 2020. In July, 201mm of rain fell over 18 days, compared to 55mm over 14 days last year. In the last two weeks, 113mm of rain fell and the biggest rainfall event for the month was 41mm, whereas last year in July the largest rainfall event was 16.5mm. The property has already had 22mm in August which is half of what the family received in August 2020. The previous July rainfall record was in 2007, where 145mm was had for the month. Ann Rintoul took this video of Minigin Brook which now spans 300-400 metres wide. 📹 Footage by Ann Rintoul.
