- WINNER IN GERMANY! -

'The Housemate' was awarded three wins in an international film festival in Germany! Which means we will have it screened at their big live screening event this year!

- WINNERS AT NEW YORK! -

A huge congratulations to The Housemate's theme song writer Fran, and fellow song producer Morgan from SLUMBERJACK ! They took out the award for 'BEST MAIN THEME in a feature film' at the Oniros International Film Awards in New York! Chosen from films entered all over the world, a massive result for our little horror film!

- OVER ONE HUNDRED TICKETS SOLD SO FAR! -

Tickets are selling fast for the premiere of Dark Play Studios first feature film THE HOUSEMATE. The tickets have been on sale for just over a week, so make sure you grab yours from the link below!

The film is doing the film festival circuit around the world in prep for the big event, and so far has won four international film awards! Two from Canada (The Canadian Cinematography Film Awards), and two from the U.S (Oniros Film Awards, New York).
Come and see what it's all about!

Tickets are officially open for the premiere of THE HOUSEMATE, hosted by the iconic Luna Palace Cinemas in Leederville! Already getting international attention through Germany, Canada, and festivals in the U.S. announcing their interest in showcasing the film, this is your chance to see what's been brewing at Dark Play Studios for the last couple of months. - FESTIVAL WIN! -

Amazing news from the Canadian Cinematography Awards this morning! THE HOUSEMATE has been chosen for two international awards! We submitted the film for the HORRIR/THRILLER category, which it won Best Film for, BUT they also selected the film as the winner for the overall category of Best Feature Film!

This puts the film into the mix for a live screening in Toronto along with the other category winners. Amazing work for all involved, especially the incredibly talented lead cast of Kat Ludley, Bonnie Wheeler, Lynne Devenish and Justine Renzullo!

- FILM FESTIVAL SELECTION! -

Our first feature film 'The Housemate' has been selected for its first ever international film festival! The festival is in Germany, called the 'Bloody Hats Film Festival' and will include a screening of the film over there, which is very exciting for it's first run out of the gate!

- Creating the creature: 5/5 -

When the idea of having a creature developed for this film came about, it included the need for something distinctive about the face. Something that stands out and draws the attention, in a very grotesque way. So the addition of a split cheek, exposing the teeth, was decided on. It was something that Justine could achieve relatively easily, but to blend it all into the existing cheek was the master stroke she achieved with the incorporation of that effect.

The time lapse video will reveal the full process, including the very end result of our villain. Stay tuned, it's coming very soon...

- Creating the creature: 4/5 -

Any horror worth it's own weight, needs a good villain. Whether it's a psychotic killer, an unseen paranormal entity, or a straight up monster.

With The Housemate, we anted something that draws on all those things. Something that has psychotic killer tendencies, that is also largely unseen to the main cast, but when it is shown in all its glory, is a monstrous sight. Justine is a master of this craft, with a life long love of horror films, and it clearly shows. The lengths she has gone to in order to create this villain is just next-level.

- Creating the creature: 3/5 -

One thing we wanted to achieve with this film, was a healthy mix of horror tropes such as jump scares AND creep factor. The jump scares are good for getting the heart racing, and the mind always on edge, waiting for the next blast of scary sound and sight. But the focus on achieving some very creepy, uncomfortable visuals was something we also wanted to deliver. The way this creature has been created by our incredible SFX artist AND actor, Justine Renzullo, has resulted in something truly terrifying when you see it on screen, whether it's in a flash for a jump scare, or more uncomfortably, holding onto a long shot of the face.

One scene in particular, the big 'reveal' does not pull away from a tight close up on the face for a long time. Will she just stare down the main character, Em? Or will she launch herself at her in an unexpected attack? You'll have to come and see it in August to find out.

- Creating the creature: 2/5 -

The obvious inspiration for this villain/entity was from The Ring. The difference is, the facial features are more of a 'feature' in The Hoisemate, with a focus on creating a horrific looking face that is exposed rather than hidden behind long, black hair.
