Thursday 31 March 2022 - A group of regional and international peace partners comprising of IGAD Special Envoy, African Union Ambassador, the Special Representative of the Secretary General and Head of UNMISS and Interim Chair of RJMEC on Wednesday held a meeting with the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon to exchange notes on the current pressing issues and progress made in the implementation of the revitalised peace agreement.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, IGAD Special Envoy, Dr. Ismail Wais said the meeting was enlightening, constructive and productive and has left them informed of what needs to be done as a way forward in the agreement.

Dr. Wais reiterated their unwavering and firm stance behind the implementation of the agreement as the only means to resolve the conflicts in the country.

UPDATE!

We would like to inform the general public, the International Community, the African Union, the TROIKA, the IGAD, the UN Security Council and the People of South Sudan that the security situation in South Sudanese’ capital Juba is deteriorating.

Last night, we have witnessed the following unusual military maneuvers occurred:

- Heavy military deployment in and around J1.

- Airport road leading toward the American’s residence and from toward the airport barricaded.

- All roads leading to the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny’s residence cordoned off..

- No one was allowed to access the First Vice President’s residence started 7PM - 6 AM.

- Close aides to the First Vice President were blocked and no one was allowed in or coming out from the residence.

- All 4 quadrants leading to the First Vice President’s residence were all sealed off by armed guns men - the Tiger Division.

- The security personnel deployed to protect the FVP’s residence and provide his personal security withdrew for an hour and half without any explanation.

- In our view, these are dangerous and serious security threats to the life of the FVP and Members of the SPLM/A -IO in Juba.

- Therefore, we are very concerned and we want to register our disappointment that these flagrant and reckless gestures are unwarranted.

- We call on President Salva Kiir to refrain and not to take the people of South Sudan to war for the third times.

- The SPLM/A- IO condemns these hostile maneuvers and threats in the strongest terms possible.

MACHAR OFFICIALS COMFIRM DEPLOYMENT OF SECURITY FORCES AROUND 1st V.P RESIDENCE

JUBA – South Sudan officials close to First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny have just confirmed that the residence of the South Sudan’s second powerful man has been put under “intense and heavy” security presence with citizens being turned away from all roads adjacent to the residence.

Earlier tonight, several eyewitnesses said a joint security force comprising elements from South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) and South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) has been deployed and were turning citizens away from the direction of ‘Home and Away’ Hotel and from the other side of J2.

Speaking to Sudans Post moments ago, one official allied to Machar said the deployment of forces around the First Vice President’s residence begun with a small force following escalation of attacks on SPLA-IO cantonment sites in Unity and Upper Nile state, but turned out to be a heavy deployment of troops beginning Sunday evening.

“Since three days ago, when our partners in peace from South Sudan People’s Defense Force attacked out cantonment sites in Unity and Upper Nile state, the national security began deploying force. It was a small group of soldiers, I can say so,” the official who requested not to be named, said.

“But this evening (Sunday night), soldiers from South Sudan People’s Defense Forces joined in making it heavy and even citizens were turned away from passing through the road that comes from J2 and from the Home and Away Hotel and we don’t know the intentions. It is a intense and heavy deployment,” the official added.

Another official separately confirmed the heavy deployment of troops, but dismissed social media reports that the First Vice President has replaced his bodyguard with Nuer elements, saying those deployed as guards are from the National Security Service “and cannot be done unilaterally at the FVP’s end.”

INTERPRETATION OF THE SPLM (IO) LOGO AND FLAG

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – In Opposition (SPLM – IO) adopted a Logo and a Flag on March 6, 2022.

The logo is a visionary red Phoenix bird instilled on a white background encircled by concentric colored rings starting inside with blue, white, green and white on the outside to showcase the patriotic and transformative agenda for nation building.

The logo features also on the white background golden rays emanating from the Phoenix and the SPLM (IO) slogan: Viva SPLM (IO) Viva, and on the inner blue ring the SPLM(IO) motto: Freedom, Peace, Justice and Prosperity.

The Phoenix symbolizes: Resilience, Immortality, Resurrection, Power and Victory.

The golden rays symbolize the vision for prosperity and happiness of the people.

The red color of the Phoenix symbolizes the blood of martyrs and comradeship.

The blue color symbolizes patriotism, loyalty and harmony and as well as the colors of the sky, rivers and lakes.

The white color symbolizes unity, wisdom, stability and peace.

The green color symbolizes agriculture, natural resources and prosperity.

The color of the flag is cobalt blue.

"Freedom, Peace and Justice (IO) is the people’s Choice."
