Igloo's own* Andrew Mostyn Powell will be performing a solo show this Thursday at The Duke of George in support of Isabel Rumble (Tas). New tour company West Bound - Folk & Country doing great things!

DESPITE BEING off the live scene for such a long time now, I've been busy demoing songs and building a studio. Last year I finally released my debut "solo" single and video, Circle in the Lights
This year is going to be a massive one for me with another single and a solo album to hopefully be completed before the year is out
I'll also be making my first foray into composing film music after I was given the opportunity to do the score for the local feature film, Manny, by Vanja Fischer
However, before I even get to that I'm in the process of preparing for my first live performance in five years when I open for east coast singer songwriter, Isabel Rumble, on four July
In the meantime I'm incredibly grateful to my friend and engineer Gareth Parsons, Adem K at Igloo Records and Mike Tucak at Westbound for supporting me and making it all possible!
Hopefully I will see some of you folks in July

We are proud to present the debut album of Bunbury-based fuzz rockers The Boogie Men.

The wireless, leaping front man Craig Best was a member of
Three Orange Whips and buoyed by that band's rereleases and the plaudits heaved upon this release by it's mixing engineer Laurie Sinagra (Igloo's go-to-man, man), the label is ready to dip another toe in the rocky waters.

The Boogie Men album will be released on July 12 on Vinyl and Digital format with two launches:

** MITEY KO - The Ko-llection ** All four albums from Perth’s Best Kept Indie Secret available digitally for the first time RIGHT NOW!

Mitey Ko were and still are a Perth three-piece cello-heavy (you heard right) indie rock band formed in 1997 by musician/poet Allan Boyd on vocals/guitar and cellist/author Kevin Gillam. The band were later joined by Adem Kerimofski (Turnstyle) on percussion and synthesizer. Having played virtually every venue in their hometown during their most productive years, the "Ko" released four albums:

IGLOO052 2theResQ (2000) - The Dirty Three with words. Poetic, minimal musings on isolation, love and longing. Key Track: 2theresQ

IGLOO053 5%famous (2001) - Sprawling and lo-fi. The bright pop melodies countered by slower, darker moments towards the end. Key Track: Sometimes

IGLOO054 Incidental Guerrillas (2003) - Post-911 activism and confusion, some beautiful mediations on relationships here too. Key Track: Victory

IGLOO055 Devastated Frustrated (2008) - Activism comes to the fore here though softened slightly by the slightly raunchy opener and the joyous choir of the closing track. Key Track: My Emperor

Their blend of haunting cello and rolling pop-poetics also saw them perform countless arts and poetry events - as well as supporting national and international acts such as Crooked Fingers who’s leader Eric Bachman said of Mitey Ko, “the most interesting band we’ve played with here”. In 2002, the band's music was the featured musical component of the independent film Teesh and Trude starring Peter Phelps and Susie Porter. After a short performance at the film’s premiere, the drumsticks had to be hidden from a drunk Phelps who asked the band if he could “have a bash on the kit”.

Mitey Ko are planning on a return to live shows after a 9 year haitus.

The next Igloo release(s) will be the entire MiteyKo back catalogue. Out very soon!

Just completed the preliminary masters for the MiteyKo reissue. All albums will be released soon, on the same day once OK’d by the founding fathers Allan and Kevin.

Mitey Ko seems like another lifetime ago and it was emotional and enjoyable to do this.

Thanks must go to Richard Eames (who was the only person who actually had the CDs) and all the great engineers, Laurie, Greg and Trevor.

Lou Barlow has been a name synonymous with the lo-fi indie aesthetic of the 90s, however here in 2024, Barlow remains more productive, honest and relevant than he ever has. Founder of some of the greatest bands you've ever heard - Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh and Folk Implosion. He even started out playing hardcore as a teenager in Deep Wound! Hear and see Lou up close, in the flesh as he plays his most loved songs, recent gems and possibly some requests, interspersed with enlightening, funny and melancholic stories.

** Proudly presenting the 50th Igloo release! **

The Community Chest present their third EP and fourth release since their formation in in 2011, Mono/Poly. The circle is complete. (Finally) a Monopoly reference with a twist… Mono - only one. Poly - many. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts? Wrong Aristotle. Wrong. This is The Community Chest’s first release to include song writing from all band members. So the title is indeed apt. 5 tracks that stick together like a team but carry their own merit.
Memory Man - an ode to an effects unit? Possibly. Perhaps. Just someone who’s ultra helpful whether you need to double your voice or guide you on a twilight jog. Check that middle section. You can’t accuse the band of being stingy with epicness.
Handshake - Handshake was planned, mapped and scrapped. Handshake developed into a tour de force production of layered synths and multi-tracked percussion almost unlike any other track the band has produced. Lyrically, Handshake uses the electronic "handshake" generated by early computerised communication systems as a metaphor for fleeting relationships. Banger.
Sounder - The 1973 Hammond Sounder organ - voted the worst Hammond organ of all time, we were determined to write a song on one. Replacing the Sounder (which was subsequently sold to an ex-Australian Idol Finalist for $20) with a Casio keyboard and Roland SH-2000 synthesizer, the recording finally came together. American Civil War graves, the groundhogs of Punxatawny and a train trip within the boundaries of Harrisburg's Three Mile Island completed the lyrical bent. The song was mixed by Aaron Espinoza (Earlimart) and Jason Lytle (Grandaddy) in Los Angeles. Jason also played something else on the recording but he won't tell us what.
In My Dreams - is The Community Chest's first time-traveling pocket-symphony-audio-micro-film-rock opera based in New York City from the Pre-Virus present day to the Manhattan of the Native American Lenape. It’s funny to think that the last minute of this song was conceived BEFORE the band became Sly Stone tragics…
One Way Flight - A relaxed dual vocal harking back to the early days of the band, the last song recorded for the EP is a perfect antidote to the heavy moments leading up to it. A kind of sweet-revenge tale assembled via instrument swapping, melody muck-ins and real time sound manipulation.

Mono/Poly (IGLOO050) is out on March 22, 2024, CD and streaming, proudly presented by Igloo Records.

Live Performance:
Friday March 22 at Lyric Lane, Maylands, Western Australia with support from Didion’s Bible, 6s & 7s and Beach Bleach.
