"PILOT" by The Media (IGLOO058) is out today on all streaming platforms and to own digitally from bandcamp.

Walls of layered guitars, overlapping melodies and song structures with more 5’s than 4’s. The Media’s songwriting is ambitious, sometimes introverted and then, at times, strikingly expansive sonic amble through their indie, post rock, shoegaze lineage.

Pilot was recorded and mastered at home, in all of their homes over the space of 9 months. Massive guitars, Noise, Drone, driving rhythms and engaging melodic vocals all intertwine to create a repeated sense of tension then release.

Personal note: The band features my friend of 27 years and Turnstyle co-conspirator, Dean Davies and this marks the first Igloo release featuring one of my band members' projects. Killer songs with melodies that go for days...

"PILOT" by The Media

Walls of layered guitars, overlapping melodies and song structures with more 5’s than 4’s. The Media’s songwriting is ambitious, sometimes introverted and then, at times, strikingly expansive sonic amble through their indie, post rock, shoegaze lineage.

Formed in September 2023 from Dean (Davies - Turnstyle) and Mike’s common vision for made up chords, lack of respect for musical keys and a pent up desire to take a more exciting musical direction. They found Rob, fiercely driven and unnervingly organised, a fine drummer in its purest distilled form. Lastly, the quietest of English gentleman Jeremy filled out the low end with his seemingly effortless infectious lines.

Pilot was recorded and mastered at home, in all of their homes over the space of 9 months. The 4 songs tell stories of social inequity, human insignificance, anxiety and friendships lost. Massive guitars, Noise, Drone, driving rhythms and engaging melodic vocals all intertwine to create a repeated sense of tension then release.

Pilot will be available digitally from Jan 17 2025 as IGLOO058

To commemorate 30 years to the day of the release of ‘Flounder’, we proudly present a new video comprised of recently unearthed super8 film footage for the opening track ‘Count Me’.

Tickets to the re-issue launch are selling beyond expectation so grab one as soon as you can.

On a personal note, it warmed my heart to see all members of the band at the Superchunk show last night. I know I’m working with the right band.
