Genetic diversity matched to different farming system

Tools are being developed to better understand the genetic basis of flowering time and phenology traits in lentils Sowing and maturity times have become important levers that growers can use to optimise yield potential and yield resilience. Variation in these traits helps to make the best use of stored soil moisture and avoid heat, drought and frost stresses.Making use of these levers in pulses, however, requires an influx of novel genetic diversity to provide wider variation in flowering time and reproductive phenology as well as an understanding of interactions with environment and management practices.Associate Professor James Weller of the University of Tasmania is defining and characterising genetic variation in these important phenology traits.....

The fuel was imported by Ampol from Malaysia to its Kurnell facility on Wednesday 7 May and is currently being blended with conventional aviation fuel before testing and certification so that it can be distributed into the Sydney airport supply chain. It will then be used on flights departing from Sydney Airport over the coming weeks.....

Mandatory information standard for toppling furniture to reduce accidents and deaths

Furniture suppliers are now required to provide safety warnings to consumers about the dangers of toppling furniture after the mandatory information standard for toppling furniture https://bit.ly/431Mm51 came into effect on 4 May 2025.

Businesses reminded to review their card surcharges and pricing information

The ACCC is encouraging businesses to review their card payment surcharges to ensure they are in line with their cost of accepting card payments.

Businesses should also ensure they adequately disclose upfront any card payment surcharges that apply, so that their customers can make informed decisions before ordering, booking and paying for a product or service.

Misleading surcharging practices and other add-on costs is a compliance and enforcement priority for the ACCC in the 2025-26 financial year.“Businesses need to ensure their customers know about any card payment surcharges upfront, and that they are only charging what it costs them to accept those card payments,” ACCC Deputy Chair Mick Keogh said....
