Addressing a fallout from COVID

31/12/2024

Some things I learned in 2024.

Make everyday count, "teach us to number our days that we may apply our heart unto wisdom". Don't be afraid of commitment and regular check-in. It's habitual behaviour and beliefs not once-offs that change our lives.

Always be in training mode. Don't be conceited. You're not that good, you haven't yet arrived at greatness.

Use momentum of your flywheel. It's hard to get started as you get older, so make habitual behaviours of healthy decisions.

Give things a red hot go. You might accidentally get it right.

Be aware of blindspots. Our pride and idolatry hide our faults to us but they can be still obvious to others. You need others, be very slow to cut them off. They might assist seeing your blind spots.

Be aware of echo chambers. You need a few critics and people who will check you out. You don't want people to affirm you all the way to disaster to "bless you off the cliff".

Be clothed with humility. Pride is like a hospital gown, looks good on the front but everyone can see your backside.

Do it right. Treat others HOW YOU WANT TO BE TREATED, not just "don't treat others how you don't want to be treated".

Even Jesus had to get away to pray. Remove all distractions.

Have communion often.

You can make stuff from flakes if they are glued together. Christians are strong when love is the bond. Be warm and hospitable.

God wants to involve us and us to involve him in discussions before making a decision, and in many cases before we are able to confidently pray the prayer of faith. Oftentimes we aren't sure on what we can believe for before we make a request, but the process of involving God in the thought process and asking for wisdom will help us solidify what to believe Him for.

Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness. Matthew 6:33

For a very long time I had wondered what it means to seek first God's righteousness, as it pertains to not chasing our own provison. I can see that God's righteousness includes the concept of us doing the right thing, what we know to be right. I can see also that righteousness is connected to true faith in God.

What I've come to realise recently is if we are busy seeking other agendas, or acting under pressure of finances and needs, we can find ourselves making the mistake of doing the wrong thing to provide for what we lack. Even if it includes a little here and there of a lie or taking what doesn't belong to us to try have extra to meet our own needs. This leaves us with a dirty conscience and so we can't have faith at the same time that God is the One taking care of us, if we compromise on doing the right thing to try meet our own needs.

In an increase of the world's pressures and the "cost of living," we can't afford to disconnect from the Lord and faith in Him by trying to meet our own needs at the expense of what is right or acting as though He doesn't care.

We need to cast ALL our cares on Him. If WE carry those heavy burdens, then God isn't carrying them. He's a gentleman, and won't just take what we don't surrender. He's also looking for faith. To have faith is to cast the cares on the Lord, not be anxious, and not tell lies to try accumulate provision for ourselves. God is faithful. He won't let us down, but Jesus is pointing out the guidelines that we need to follow of surrendering it all to God and ceasing from where our own efforts have become tainted and corrupt because of fear.

In these days I myself am challenged to confront all my fears and finally get this right, not that it's a one-time deal, but an ongoing choice to live a life of faith and complete trust. Who knows what could happen to the financial system, or what crisis could come next? I believe it's time right now to get settled and purge ourselves of the fear of failure, lest we become a morally weak link and collapse in a real crisis.

It's very important to surrender everything to the Lord and live without anxiety. God wants relationship with us and to taste of His goodness, even in tough times. He prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies.
