As we all get a bit older, there may be a tendency to feel less relevant to the people and world around us. By recording your life story or the story of a loved one it can help family better understand you and their own history. From a legacy perspective, we tell our stories for ourselves and as a gift to future generations. Stories transcend time. They create connections with others. It is through stories that we experience rich emotions and feelings of joy, sorrow, hardships, and failures. We learn about actions and consequences.
Stories show us what we have in common with others, and we learn to engage with others despite our differences as we come to understand who they are and where we stand in this world. Telling your story can help improve cognition and help with depression. When people pass away it can be the case that we lose those stories that make up our history and as we get older we wish we knew more about our parents, grandparents and alike.
