Newcastle Racecourse trainer Jason Deamer is in for a busy week.

Not only will he have his first Group 1 runner in Melbourne on Saturday, but also a representative in the opening Provincial-Midway Championships Qualifier at Hawkesbury Race Club Limited on Thursday.

Deamer this morning confirmed plans to send his consistent sprinter Hard To Say south for the $750,000 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield, and Craig Newitt has been booked for the ride. Read more 👇 Dynamic Syndications

EVERY provincial and Midway trainer with an eligible horse or two has at least one goal this autumn.

That is to win the $1m Provincial-Midway Championships Final (1400m) at Royal Randwick on April 12; Day 2 of The Championships.

Paul Murray is no exception, and has the best reason to achieve that goal.

His legendary late father Bede Murray won the very first Final – then known as solely the Provincial Championships – with Sure And Fast in 2015.

Now his Kembla Grange Racecourse trainer son Paul has his heart set on emulating him by capturing this year’s Final with a much in-form mare who was bred in South Australia and cost a mere $700 as a weanling.

And he will have former Illawarra Turf Club manager Michael Craig to thank if Welcometobarbados can make the Final and win it. Read more 👇 📸 Bradley_Photos

ADAM Hyeronimus will retain the ride on Wyong whiz Shaggy in his final Golden Slipper Stakes test at Rosehill on March 8.

Hyeronimus got a late call-up to maintain Shaggy’s unbeaten record in the Pierro Plate (1100m) at that track yesterday after Newcastle jockey Aaron Bullock relinquished the ride when he could not get down to ride the brilliant two-year-old 0.5kg over at 56.5kg.

“I got a message from Aaron at 11.45am to advise he wasn’t able to ride Shaggy,” trainer Allan Kehoe said this morning.

“Aaron will get the opportunity to ride him again when it’s possible, but wouldn’t be able to make 55.5kg in the Todman Stakes (1200m) at Randwick next month.

“Adam knows the horse now, and it makes sense to stick with him.” Read more 👇 📸 Photos https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/hyeronimus-stays-with-wyong-whiz

NEW outright Provincial-Midway Championships favorite Well Timed will begin his campaign at Hawkesbury Race Club Limited on March 8.

But not before he trials at that track on Monday week (February 24).

Kembla Grange Racecourse trainer Kerry Parker Racing today outlined the plan for his talented four-year-old to tackle the annual series.

“Well Timed has already trialled twice at home, and I want to give him a third trial to go first-up into the Hawkesbury Qualifier at 1400m,” he said. Read more 👇 📸Bradley_Photos

SOMETIMES it’s meant to be!

Garry Frazer got as much pleasure helping Grant Buckley cap an amazing comeback treble at Newcastle Racecourse yesterday as he did himself winning two races in a row at the track with rejuvenated gelding Binkou, who was a $15,000 purchase online in April 2021.

Buckley, who resumed riding only a week ago after very nearly being paralysed when a horse flipped over on top of him in the enclosure at Wyong last June, had already scored on La Bella Bondi ($7.50) for Grange Racecourse trainer Kerry Parker Racing and Jayashree ($5.50) for Hawkes Racing. GOSFORD trainer Jake Hull Racing yesterday helped his home track get the final tick-off for an eagerly-awaited resumption next week - and trained a winner as well.

Hull sent four horses to special jumpouts on the “new” course proper under the watchful eye of RacingNSW stewards Tom Moxon and Jack Marshall, who gave the “thumbs up” for Gosford’s first meeting in nine months on Saturday.

Later at Tamworth the former jockey posted his sixth winner of the season (and 28th overall) when $2.60 second favorite Rathoran broke through in the Super Maiden Plate (1200m).

Gosford Race Club chief executive Daniel Lacey declared “all systems go” for The Entertainment Grounds to stage its first meeting since May 16 last year. Read more 👇 📸 Entertainment Grounds

BRAD Widdup has four runners over two venues tomorrow, needing only one of them to win to give him a career milestone 400.

The leading Hawkesbury Race Club Limited trainer clinched his third win from his last six runners when Nyota ($3.70 joint favorite) led throughout under stable apprentice Zac Wadick to take the Benchmark 64 Handicap (2100m) at Wyong Race Club yesterday.

Widdup has had 42 winners (and 46 placegetters) so far this season, and is looking to the Newcastle Racecourse provincial meeting tomorrow to bring up his 400th. Read more 👇

IT took him 13 starts, but the devil’s number didn’t stop Search Warrant breaking through at home at Wyong Race Club yesterday.

And his trainer Mark Cross says he can measure up to city class – but not just yet.

Search Warrant ($7) is going for a short break after upsetting $1.45 hotpot Guinevere’s Spirit in the Provincial Maiden Plate (1600m).

A gun Anna Roper ride in the opening race gave the talented Wyong apprentice her 30th winner of the season, and she made it 31 when local trainer Kim Waugh’s $2.15 favorite Mogul Monarch bolted home with the closer, the Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m). Read more 👇 📸 Bradley_Photos

HE is the money again, as the Provincial-Midway Championships loom on the radar.

Race Club Limited’s leading trainer Brad Widdup is giving the PMC series much consideration for newcomer Money Team, who made it two wins from as many starts for his stable at his home track yesterday.

A $2.05 favorite, Money Team turned in an impressive performance to take the Provincial Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m) after Newcastle Racecourse’s Power Of The Brave ($4.40) had established what appeared to be a winning break with only 100m to go. Read more 👇 📸 Bradley_Photos

EVERY cloud has a silver lining!

Hawkesbury Race Club Limited trainers, husband and wife Mitch and Desiree Kearney, were understandably downcast last week when, through an oversight, they missed the chance to win a $400,000 Pink Bonus for their owners with their filly Sheeza Diva in the $2m Inglis Millennium at Royal Randwick last Saturday.

Sheeza Diva, unfortunately, wasn’t eligible and would have collected the bonus as she beat home the only eligible runner, Melbourne filly Bubion.

But out of a poor situation has come good. Read more 👇 Kearney Kearney racing https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/team-kearney-hits-the-jackpot

THERE’S nothing like “keeping it in the family”!

As Newcastle Racecourse’s unbeaten three-year-old Private Harry nears his first barrier trial en route to a Group 1 tilt next month, his yearling half-sister will join both him and two-year-old half-brother at trainer Nathan Doyle’s stable.

But Kurrinda Bloodstock Syndications principal Sean Driver says the filly by first season sire Captivant wasn’t purchased at this week’s Inglis Classic yearling sale (for $220,000) simply because she is related to the exciting young sprinter. Read more 👇 Doyle Racing
