Allan Kehoe abides by the belief that “patience is a good thing”!

Thus the Wyong Race Club trainer has decided to pull the pin on a planned Brisbane assignment with his talented two-year-old Shaggy this weekend.

When Shaggy drew barrier 16 in a field of 17 for the Listed Oxlade Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday, Kehoe didn’t have to think twice.

“That’s the finish of his two-year-old season,” Kehoe said. Read more 👇 Bradley_Photos

A perfect blood count has convinced Minervini Racing to back up two-year-old Gemologist and step him up in distance at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

And the Newcastle Racecourse trainer has been able to secure the services of Sydney apprentices premiership front-runner Braith Nock for the youngster in the 2YO Handicap (1400m).

Gemologist closed off strongly over the last 200m once he got clear running when fifth to fellow Newcastle two-year-old Hidden Motive over 1100m at Royal Randwick last Saturday.

“I would have preferred going to 1200m, but there isn’t anything available for the next few weeks,” Minervini said. Read more 👇 📸 Photos https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/blood-s-right-so-rosehill-here-we-come

Scone Race Club proved to be a happy hunting ground yesterday for our Provincial Racing - NSW brigade with Newcastle Racecourse's Paul Perry bagging a double & wins to fellow Newcastle trainers - Kris Lees Racing & Rod Ollerton.

Perry brought up his 32nd win for the season with the double, Backward Glance & The Piccolino winning their respective races.

ANY day Emma Ly has on this earth is a bonus!

So why shouldn’t she be feeling on top of the world after riding a winner at Race Club on Sunday?

The 29-year-old Hawkesbury Race Club Limited apprentice, who gave up a nursing career to become a jockey, clinched her first provincial success this season on Hawkesbury trainer Ed O’Rourke’s $11 chance Shalaa Jet in the Provincial Maiden Plate (1600m).

Victorian-born Ly says she is so lucky to be alive after a shocking trackwork accident at Royal Randwick 13 months ago. Read more 👇 📸 Bradley_Photos Blake Ryan Racing

SHE was a “diamond in the rough” earlier, and is now starting to show her quality.

Leading Hawkesbury Race Club Limited trainer Brad Widdup made it two wins on end with lightly-raced filly Diamond Show, who quickly made the often difficult transition from Maiden company to Class 1 grade at Wyong Race Club yesterday.

Ridden by Alysha Collett, Diamond Show ($2.80 favorite) followed up her breakthrough at home in a Maiden Plate (1600m) on May 25 by taking the Class 1 Handicap over the same distance. Read more 👇 📸 Bradley_Photos https://www.provincialracingnsw.com.au/post/this-diamond-is-becoming-a-gem

MARK Minervini was driving to the races at Wyong Race Club on Sunday wondering how he could find a replacement for his retired sprinter Quick Tempo.

That query may well have been answered a couple of hours later when recent acquisition, lightly-raced three-year-old Pratt, made it two wins in a row for the Newcastle Racecourse trainer’s stable.

Ridden by Newcastle apprentice Ben Osmond, who later completed a double on his master Kris Lees Racing's evergreen French Marine ($5) in the Benchmark 64 Handicap (1200m), Pratt ($3.40) outsped his rivals in the Midway Class 1 Handicap (1000m), defeating fellow Newcastle trainer Paul Perry’s Harlex ($2.40 favorite). Kris Lees Racing will adopt a similar policy with his third Queensland Oaks winner You Wahng as he did with earlier winners Vitesse Dane (2005) and Amokura (2023).

“You Wahng will have a well-earned spell and a light spring,” the leading Racecourse trainer said this following his filly’s tenacious victory in Saturday’s $700,000 Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm.

“That’s what I did with both Vitesse Dance and Amokura.

“The Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) against her own s*x at the Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington in November looks the right goal.” Read more 👇
