TLDR: New opening hours and a chance to win a $100 voucher for participating in our store survey!

The world is changing quicker than we can react so we’re trying to get on the front foot and be the best, viable business we can be and most importantly keep Newcastle record store culture alive. So as of February this year we will be changing up our opening hours, the main difference being that we will be closed on Monday and Tuesday. It hasn’t been an easy decision, but it gives us a chance to get better behind the scenes to serve our customers better.

Obviously we’re here to sell records, but from day 1 we wanted to provide a community for the record collecting, music loving, freaks, geeks and weirdos to exist. We love the discourse between staff, customers and tyre kickers over what band did what best, which pop star has roots in punk rock and which song was sampled in that classic hip hop joint. To that end we wanted to get you, our legendary customers, to have your say in how we operate moving forward. We have our own ideas and aspirations, but we want to hear your thoughts on how we can better serve you. The link below will take you to a quick survey and we’d really appreciate your input. have reissued the 1989 bonafide hardcore classic as a stand-alone release, the first official release since its original pressing of 100. We’ve got a handful and the pre order is up on the website (expected arrival first week of Feb.)

Porcell was a recent guest on ‘s podcast explaining that the band didn’t want to release the record, but agreed with the label to do 100 to cover production costs already sunk into the project. Chung King may have other wise never seen the light of day. Wild.

At Rudderless we are the nerdiest A Tribe Called Quest fans so we were super keen when recently they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.

Long overdue, but importantly it happened.
Their legacy was long cemented without this induction, but it was important that they were finally given their flowers and celebrated in the right way.

Word can’t do this group justice, but their forward thinking lyrics, jazz infused sampled based beats that helped introduce a new generation to jazz, and their overall positive energy was incredibly important to Hip Hop culture.

A once in a generation super group, and while the Led Zep’s and Rolling Stoned of the world are forever getting their Hall Of Fame flowers it was beautiful to see a Hip Hop group with the calibre of Tribe get their just deserves.

We’ve wanted to do this night for a long time and we are excited to finally share with you… ‘Soul Club’ A Night Of Music & Comedy, Friday 22nd November at

Hosted by the hilarious and featuring the Rudderless DJs, Soul Club will be a night of classic soul, funk, disco, dancing and laughing your ass off. Think Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Donna Summer, Supremes, Four Tops and Temptations, Motown, Ric Tic, Stax and Atlantic classics with Andy Saunders zingers sprinkled over the top. What???? 🙀

The night is particularly special because we’re raising money for friend of The Ship Inn, Bob Galvin who’s had a particularly rough year. To that end we’ll be running a raffle on the night with a bunch of top gear, we’ll have lucky door prizes and giveaways for the best dancers and heaps more.

Emily Barker is in town this October for Skyline and we are excited to have this incredible songwriter and in store for an exclusive and intimate acoustic performance.

Australian born, London based, Emily will be breaking down songs from her stunning new record ‘Fragile As Humans,’ answering questions and signing right here in the lil record store that could.

I was lucky enough to be introduced to E.B. and her music through mutual friend on the ground in Tamworth a few years back and as someone that appreciates and aspires to write great songs, I assure you Barker has plenty of golden nuggets littered throughout her repertoire.

RUDDERLESS RECORDS PRESENTS… ‘Artist Top 5’. This week we welcome super, multi instrumentalist @graceaberhart. Grace came into store and talked through 5 of the records that have not only influenced the way she creates and produces her own music but records she holds dearly as some of her all yime favourites. Grace picked a wide range of records from @katyperry, @thestorysofarca, @charlie__xcx, @snailmail & @slowlyslowlymusic. Grace has released numerous singles and at the end of last year released her E.P ‘What I Could Tell You’. Grace not plays her own dream pop tunes, but is an incredible funk bassist and plays in bands around town and absolutely shreds. You can see this in the brilliant content she uploads on her social media accounts and we implore you to check out both her Instagram and Tik Tok accounts where she has huge hardcore followings. Grace let us into a little secret while she was here, that she has a couple of new singles up her sleeve and they will be released to you all very soon, so keep your ears open for those. Rudderless Records Presents… ‘ARTIST’S TOP 5’. First up in our new video series we have Tunz1 from @upnup_inspirations. Tunz1 is a legend in the Australian hip hop community, as well as an active pioneer in the Australian graffiti scene. Tunz at the end of last year released a new 7” - 32’em (which is available instore as well as on our website) along with @top_button_recordings, @deejay_mathmatics, @lachy_hamill, @greeleythc. The 7” also looks to be a world first as the pressing cut by @phono.lab contains pieces of Tunz’ graff cut into the wax.
