FIRST LOOK: CONVERTED! 🪩🏳️‍🌈

A brand-new comedy disco musical makes its World Premiere!

Maya Wolfe is 17, lonely, and desperate to be liked. When her school counsellor, Ms. Newsome suggests the ‘Fix Yourself!’ camp for low self-esteem teens, she soon realises things aren’t as they seem. There she meets Bone, a rebellious returning camper with a mission, who says why fit in when you can tear the mould apart? Eager to please Ms Newsome, but feeling unexpected feelings for Bone, Maya must decide whether it’s better to fit in or join forces to take down the system. And will Bone be able to rally the troops to carry out their ambitious plan before the Love Ceremony in three days’ time?

Written by award-winning comedy writer Vic Zerbst with acclaimed composer Oliver John Cameron, Converted! is a brand new work featuring a cast of nine young people bursting to the stage with q***r disco anthems. The show is a joyous call to action to affirm and celebrate the lives of trans, gender-diverse, and non-binary teenagers who just want to be themselves, and who maybe want to take down the system of rigid thinking at the same time!

CONVERTED!:
3rd - 25th January, 2025
The Rebel Theatre, Sydney

A CELEBRATION THROUGHOUT OZ! THE WICKED MOVIE IS ALMOST HERE 🩷💚

Fans of WICKED can be among the first to witness the magic on screen, with a strictly-limited season of screenings at Sydney’s iconic State Theatre. Offering a unique experience for moviegoers, these screenings begin with a performance from the theatre’s historic Grand Wurlitzer Organ and include
limited edition collectible merchandise and specially-themed cocktails. The season kicks off with a special Gala Preview Screening on ‘Wicked Wednesday’ (20th November), with the limited-season screenings concluding on the 22nd November.

One of the most highly anticipated films of the year, WICKED makes its gravity-defying leap to the big screen. To celebrate this generation-defining cinematic event, attendees at the State Theatre will receive a collectable Wicked popcorn tin, full of delicious fresh popcorn, a collectable daybill Wicked

Before embarking on their journey to the Emerald City, attendees will also have the rare opportunity to witness a performance on the State Theatre’s famous Grand Wurlitzer Organ. The historic theatre, which has operated for over 95 years, offers a grand setting for these magical screenings,

REVIEW: SIX THE MUSICAL ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2

Divorced, beheaded, and live in living colour are Henry VIII’s wives in the return season of Six the musical, the ex-fringe show progeny of Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss turned
international social media phenomenon, where the gals reclaim their narrative via pop-infused feminist herstory.
The premise of the show is simple: whichever queen can prove that they had the worst time with Henry by way of paying homage to various recording artists in their character number will become the leader of the band.

THE CASTING OF THE TONY-WINNING HIT HAS FINALLY BEEN REVEALED

One of Australia’s most popular performers Christine Anu will lead a dynamic cast of multi-talented opera and musical theatre performers in the Broadway smash-hit musical Hadestown when it premieres in Sydney in February next year.

Playing the role of narrator Hermes, Anu will be joined on stage by rising star Abigail Adriano as Eurydice, who wowed audiences last year as Kim in Miss Saigon, Noah Mullins as Orpheus, (West Side Story, La Cage Aux Folles), Opera Australia favourite Adrian Tamburini as Hades and Elenoa Rokobaro as Persephone (Caroline or Change, tick, tick…BOOM!).

Sarah Murr, Jennifer Trijo and Imani Williams will feature as the Fates with the cast also to include Eliza Soriano, Afua Adjei, Sam Richardson, Iosefa Laga’aia, Devon Braithwaite, Molly Bugeja, Jessie Monk, Jack Lyall and Joshua Kobeck.

Two of the cast – Eliza Soriano and Joshua Kobeck - were discovered amongst the thousands of auditionees at the Open Call Auditions, held earlier in February in Sydney and Melbourne, marking their professional musical theatre debuts.

Seen by three million, streamed by over 350 million and adored by fans all around the world, singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell’s acclaimed musical phenomenon, Hadestown, currently playing on Broadway, the West End and Korea, will make its Australian premiere at Theatre Royal Sydney in February 2025.

Presented by Opera Australia and JONES Theatrical Group, Hadestown won eight Tony Awards when it opened on Broadway in 2019, including Best Score and Best Director and continues to play to packed houses five years later.

INTO THE WOODS
11th - 14th September • Warners Bay Theatre

Into the Woods is a musical that intertwines the narratives of several classic The Brother’s Grimm fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests.

The central plot follows a baker and his wife, who are cursed by a witch and must gather magical items to break the spell preventing them from having children. Along their journey, they encounter Cinderella, who wishes to attend the king’s festival; Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk; and Little Red Riding Hood, who wishes for bread to take to her grandmother.

Act one concludes with the characters achieving their initial goals. However, act two delves into the repercussions of their actions, revealing that their “happily ever after” is fraught with unforeseen challenges. The musical delves into themes of desire, morality, the complexity of human relationships, and the sometimes harsh reality behind fairy tale endings, ultimately conveying that wishes come with consequences.
