Umpherston Sinkhole gardening work
The Umpherston Sinkhole is closed to the public today while City of Mount Gambier staff remove debris and prune the ivy, hydrangeas and other plants in the garden. 🌺🚧🏗️
Skip bins were lowered by crane into the sinkhole this morning.
The council says the work will make the sinkhole look better in the long term and allow for new plantings later in the year.

A new playground has been opened at Grant High School in a move to encourage students to become more active at break-times. 🛝
It was installed with year 7 students in mind but it has also been popular with other older students.
The ninja-themed playground was officially opened today with classes competing in a race to be Best Ninja Homegroup.

Mount Gambier sinkhole path opens
The path between the Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre and the Rail Lands in Mount Gambier has reopened. 🚶🚶🚶
The walkway off Margaret Street was closed in June when a sinkhole opened in the area. It's now been filled up and the shortcut has been restored. The toilets nearby have also reopened.

Seals frolic off the coast of Robe
How fantastic is this?🐬
Tourists are being greeted by up to 100 long-nosed fur seals off the coast of Robe at Baudin Rocks.
Thanks to Limestone Coast Boat Tours for sharing this great video. The operator of the tour says tourists onboard are always guaranteed of spotting a seal lazing on the sand or rocks.
Tourists also see dolphins, sea lions and a myriad of birdlife.🐋

The state's governor, Frances Adamson, visited Millicent this afternoon to lay a wreath to mark the centenary of the town's cross of sacrifice.
She and her husband Rod Bunten are also attending the Kangaroo Inn Area School's presentation night tonight to mark the 60th anniversary of the school opening.
Both the cenotaph and the school were opened by previous governors.

Lucindale police officer honoured
Brevent Sergeant Jason Doig has been honoured with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Lucindale police station that was attended by hundreds of local residents and others from around the South East.
He was remembered as a police officer who as set an example of contributing as much as he could to the community he lived in.

Australian scientists have a secret weapon in the fight to understand bushfire behavior 🥼🔥🍂
While fires can't be removed as a threat to our landscape, there is an opportunity to better understand how they behave and the factors that influence them.
That's why researchers at the CSIRO in Canberra built the Pyrotron, to test fire behavior and conduct experiments with a level of control that can't be achieved outdoors.
